Job summary
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a diverse clinical caseload and delivering high-quality, patient-centred care across a broad spectrum of health needs within a primary care setting.
They will work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to ensure the highest standards of clinical care and service delivery for all registered patients.
Main duties of the job
In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties, including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness Developing care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols Providing counselling and health education Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate Report and action appropriately on pathology reports, read and action all clinical letters via DOCMAN, and complete clinical audits

The successful candidate will manage a varied clinical caseload and provide high-quality, patient-centred care to the practice population within a primary care setting. The post-holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, effective, and compassionate healthcare services while maintaining the highest clinical standards.
The role involves the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of patients presenting with a wide range of medical conditions, alongside health promotion, disease prevention, and continuity of care.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive medical services to the practice population, including consultations, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care
Manage acute and chronic medical conditions in line with current clinical guidelines and best practice
Undertake face-to-face, telephone consultations as required
Prescribe medication safely and appropriately in accordance with local and national guidance
Maintain accurate, contemporaneous, and comprehensive patient records
Work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team, including nurses, pharmacists, HCAs, and administrative staff
Participate in safeguarding procedures for vulnerable adults and children
Contribute to health promotion and preventative healthcare initiatives
Support quality improvement, clinical audit, and service development activities
Participate in practice meetings and multidisciplinary discussions
Maintain professional development and comply with appraisal and revalidation requirements
Contribute to the training and supervision of medical students, GP trainees, and other healthcare professionals where appropriate
Person SpecificationEssential Criteria
Fully qualified General Practitioner with GMC registration and licence to practise
Inclusion on the NHS Performers List
Excellent clinical assessment and decision-making skills
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
Commitment to delivering high-quality patient care
Good organisational and time-management skills
