Main duties of the job

The Lead Pharmacist for Rheumatology / Gastroenterology (including endoscopy),

Is responsible for leading, developing and evaluating the clinical pharmacy service to these speciality areas.Is responsible for providing highly specialist clinical pharmacy practice and being a pharmacy role model.Is responsible for providing highly specialist service to Rheumatology, Gastroenterology and Endoscopy Service for in and outpatients and day cases e.g. bespoke Medicine Management schemes.Is responsible for ensuring that appropriate mechanisms are in place to promote high quality drug use, effective risk management, patient safety - clinical governance initiatives and adherence to trust policies and guidelines and advises on drug budget management in these areasProvides support as required to the clinical pharmacy services, dispensary, production and medicine information services and medicines management programme.Assists in planning and delivery of education and training within the pharmacy department and Rheumatology, Gastroenterology and other areas as appropriate.Carries out pharmacy practice research and clinical audit in this area of practice.Manages the pharmacy team working in this speciality area.

Person Specification

Education and qualifications Essential

MPharm or equivalent Registered as a pharmacist with the GPhC Completion of post graduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy/Pharmacy Practice or equivalent Independent non medical prescribing qualification, or currently working towards it Mandatory CPD to maintain fitness to practice Post graduate diploma in pharmacy practice or equivalent, or currently working towards it Good Clinical Practice

Desirable

Advanced qualification in specialist area or equivalent Management qualification or equivalent experience

Skills and abilities Essential

Ability to work under pressure Effective verbal and written communication skills with all disciplines, colleagues & patients and good presentation skills Computer literate Ability to innovate and implement change Computer literate Ability to carry out drugs usage review and drug expenditure analysis Ability to lead service Ability to motivate, influence and persuade senior pharmacy and medical staff, the MDT team and management. Ability to work with other colleagues as part of a team Ability to resolve conflict Ability to monitor service provision and use performance indicators pro-actively Demonstrate analytical and reasoning skills Ability to demonstrate appropriate clinical knowledge and application including where therapy maybe contentious or complex

Relevant Hospital Pharmacy experience, including recent clinical/ward pharmacy experience Gastroenterology, Rheumatology and endoscopy Hospital Pharmacy experience Ability to critically review services and Processes Effective organisation and prioritisation skills in the workplace Ability to work unsupervised and alone Identify training needs of staff in order to undertake the roles required Use of search engines/medical databases to retrieve information Relevant staff management experience Integrate research evidence into practice Project management experience Understanding of risk management with medicines usage practice Understanding of Formulary & DUR issues
