This role sits within a specialized team of lawyers advising on Payments’ products and services across Corporate Treasury Services, Escrow Services, Trade Finance and Lending. The successful candidate will take primary ownership of legal and regulatory matters relating to Cash Management and Liquidity, while cross-covering adjacent product lines as needed. This is an opportunity to work at the intersection of innovation and regulation — advising on complex, evolving products in one of the most dynamic payments markets globally, while partnering closely with business, product and control stakeholders, and contributing to local, regional and global Legal initiatives.
Your role
- Provide legal and regulatory support to the Payments business in Brazil, with primary responsibility for Corporate Treasury Services (Cash Management and Liquidity) and cross-coverage of Escrow Services, Trade Finance and Lending, which are primarily covered by other lawyers on the team.
- Advise management and business, product, and control stakeholders on legal and regulatory matters, exercising independent legal judgment, assessing risks and coordinating appropriate escalations within Legal.
- Support business and product teams in structuring complex and innovative products, services and transactions, including new product initiatives and the expansion of product offerings and functionalities.
- Review, draft, and negotiate documents related to the covered lines of business.
- Monitor and interpret evolving legal and regulatory requirements affecting the Payments business in Brazil, assess their impact on existing and proposed products and functionalities, and advise on related legal risks.
- Participate in local, regional, and global Legal initiatives, and contribute to the development of products, services, templates, know-how, best practices and procedures, sharing product and regulatory expertise across the team.
- Provide support to the broader Banking Legal team, as needed, on related products, services, and institutional matters, contributing to coordinated legal coverage and continuity of support.
Required experience, capabilities, and skills:
- Licensed attorney in Brazil with 4+ years' legal experience, ideally in payments, cash management, or bank regulatory law.
- Strong grounding in Brazilian Payments regulation and Corporate Treasury Services (Cash Management/Liquidity), with the ability to interpret evolving rules, assess legal risk, and address the contractual complexities of innovative products and transactions.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and analytical abilities, paired with sound independent judgment and clear communication for translating complex legal/regulatory issues to business, product, and control stakeholders.
- Strong stakeholder coordination across cross-coverage and global Legal initiatives, a solution-driven commercial mindset, and the ability to apply product knowledge to novel transactions.
- Comfortable managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment, quick to adapt to new products/subject matter, and open to using technology and automation tools in legal work while maintaining independent judgment and accountability.
- Fluent in English.
