Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Central London Community Healthcare to join our Early Years and Mainstream Schools Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) teams.

This is a 12-month fixed-term position offering part-time hours of 33.75 per week.

We are seeking an experienced, innovative and passionate SLT for a split post working in the Early Years SLT team and the Mainstream Schools education SLT team. You would be working with a range of children with speech language and communication needs within the Inner London boroughs of Hammersmith and Fulham and Westminster.

The post holder will work in partnership with parents/carers, other members of the multi-disciplinary team and nurseries/schools to deliver a high-quality service consisting of assessment and intervention for a complex caseload. As well as being experienced in delivering a range of communication interventions (including AAC), the post holder should have knowledge and skills in supporting children with complex needs and social communication differences. Commitment to reflective learning and strong teamwork skills are essential.

Main duties of the job

To provide in conjunction with the Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) Team an accessible, person centred, effective, needs led SLT service to the 0-5 age population and their families and within the mainstream school's education service.

Have specialist knowledge in the assessment, diagnosis and interventions for preschool children with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) including administering comprehensive formal and informal assessments.

Work closely with and deliver specialist advice, training and teaching to parents/carers, education staff, multidisciplinary team members and other colleagues as relevant to the post e.g. specific in-service training across settings to a variety of audiences e.g. parents and staff in education settings.

To have well developed specialist skills in a specialist area of SLCN within the broad range of speech, language and communication needs encountered within the caseload of preschool and school aged children.

Provide supervision and peer review support to less experienced colleagues, Speech & Language Therapy assistants and Speech & Language Therapy students, and if required, Band 5 Speech & Language Therapists.

Providing a specialist service to children attending mainstream schools with Speech/Language and communication needs (SLCN) working closely with parents/carers, and staff to enable children to develop their speech, language and communication skills and to access the curriculum.

Experience Essential

Collaborative work with parents and other professionals Experience of supporting CYP, families and schools in line with the Children and Families Act 2014 including contribution to statutory assessments (Education Health and Care Plan Needs Assessments), Experience of carrying out assessment and differential diagnosis including complex disorders Experience of implementing a range of therapeutic interventions for children with complex SLC needs

Skills & Knowledge Essential

Understanding of typical child development Speech and Language, Play and other milestones Ability to organise and manage own caseload independently and support other more junior staff manage their caseload
