About this role

Job summary

An exciting position has become available, for a dynamic and experienced educator RN or AHP to join our Education Team within the Emergency Department and Acute Medical Unit (UEC) at The Royal Liverpool University Hospital. You must have at least 2 years' experience at teaching within a clinical setting such as Acute Medicine/ITU/ED or a clinical teaching environment and have simulation experience around patient safety and pathways and clinical skills and equipment training and an understanding of Human Factors.

You will be joining an existing team and will be responsible for the clinical training and development of all nursing and healthcare staff. You will be undertaking in situ simulation on a regular basis, setting up of study days for acutely ill patients/sepsis/paediatrics/CBRN/major Incident and mandatory training, as well as supporting newly qualified nursing staff in their 4-week induction and preceptorship and developing the workforce.

Your role will include undertaking monthly report writing and data collection to be reported into the Matron Lead for the team, as well as maintaining a database for training. You will also be expected to produce the Education strategy for the next 2 years to work against and submit the yearly Training Needs Analysis (TNA) for staff development alongside the trust Education Lead.

We will require you to either have a PGCE or be willing to undertake this training within the first 12 to 18 months months of starting your role.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be key in the implementation of the education strategy for the emergency care setting. They will provide supervision in practice and deliver training, whilst establishing the training requirements in the setting to ensure the necessary workforce skill mix. They will link the education strategy for the emergency care setting with the overall strategy for education in the organisation. They will work closely with the lead nurse managers, and education providers, including higher education institutes (HEIs) in providing and supporting learners within the ED.

The post will involve managing alongside the other Band 7, a small group of nurse educators to ensure that they are delivering high quality education across the division. The post holder will work closely with both AMU and ED to build working relations and ensure educational and clinical standards across the care group.

The post holder should have experience in leadership, and education, having a track record of clinical education of others is paramount to this role.

To support the staff working in all areas of clinical practice to increase skills and knowledge.

To conduct and facilitate in-house teaching for the staff relating to their speciality.

Support the continuing professional development programme by planning the educational needs of the directorate for TNA and appraisals.

Input to a database to hold records of all education and training delivered to staff.

Support the Education and skills strategy for the department.

Undertaking in situ simulation with regards to pathways and safety incidents and have knowledge of writing scenarios and using mannequins and IT equipment and also accurate feedback and debrief.

Working alongside the Trust PEFs for preceptorship to ensure the newly Qualified Nurses are supported and trained competently to provide the best care possible.

Undertaking Human Factors training within the care group

Supporting evidence of education by providing monthly reports to the matrons and ADNs for UEC and updating the database for recording training.

The job will be full time Monday - Friday
