About this role

Job Title: CNC MachinistJob DescriptionThis role focuses on setting up and operating CNC machines, with a strong emphasis on Mazak equipment and multi-axis machining. The CNC Machinist interprets blueprints and process documentation, performs precise machining operations, and ensures all parts meet strict aerospace and semiconductor industry specifications while maintaining a clean and safe work area on a daytime, four-day workweek schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Study and interpret blueprints, sketches, and sequence of operations to determine machining requirements and setup procedures.
  • Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on CNC machines to accurately machine parts to specification.
  • Calculate and set machine controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, following established guidelines and procedures.
  • Enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media, including Mazatrol and other CNC control programs, to support machining operations.
  • Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance conditions and adjust machine controls or control media as required.
  • Verify conformance of finished workpieces to specifications using measuring and inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and other precision instruments.
  • Set up and operate machines on trial runs to confirm accuracy of machine settings, tooling, and programmed control data before full production.
  • Perform true machining work, including complex setups and running parts on 3-, 4-, 5-, and multi-axis CNC machines, rather than basic button-pushing or simple operator tasks.
  • Work with CNC lathes, mill-turn machines, and related Mazak equipment to produce high-quality components for aerospace and semiconductor applications.
  • Clean machinery regularly and maintain a neat, organized, and safe work area in accordance with facility standards.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures and guidelines at all times while operating machinery and handling materials.
  • Collaborate and confer with production personnel, programmers, and other team members to resolve machining or assembly problems and improve processes.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts by providing feedback on machining processes, tooling, and setups.
  • Contribute to meeting production goals and quality standards, helping the team achieve monthly performance incentives.

Essential Skills

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 3+ years of recent CNC machining experience, including setup and operation.
  • Hands-on experience with Mazak CNC machines, including 3-5 axis machining.
  • Strong with CNC lathes and mill-turn machines.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and technical drawings.
  • Proficiency in setting up CNC machines, including selecting and securing fixtures, tools, and materials.
  • Experience with Mazatrol controls, ideally Mazatrol SmoothX Controls.
  • Ability to calculate and set machining parameters such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut.
  • Skill in performing trial runs and adjusting machine settings or programs to achieve accurate results.
  • Experience using precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and height gauges to verify part dimensions.
  • Capability to detect and correct out-of-tolerance machining and equipment malfunctions.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform true machining work, including complex setups and multi-axis operations.
  • Commitment to following safety procedures consistently in a machining environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with 4- and 5-axis CNC machining, with exposure to 7-axis operations considered a plus.
  • Aerospace manufacturing and familiarity with tight tolerance requirements.
  • Experience supporting machining for semiconductor-related components is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of Fanuc controls, with the ability to work across different CNC control platforms.
  • Comfort working with lathe, mill, and mill-turn configurations in a production environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate with programmers and production staff.
  • Attention to detail and a focus on quality and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to maintain cleanliness and organization of machines and work area.
