Refrigeration Technician @ Aerotek

Job Title: Transport Refrigeration (Reefer) Technician Box Truck SpecialistJob SummaryWe are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Transport Refrigeration (Reefer) Technician to join our maintenance team. In this role, you will focus primarily on the installation, diagnostics, preventative maintenance, and repair of mobile refrigeration units (such as Thermo King and Carrier) integrated into our box truck fleet. Your expertise will directly ensure the temperature integrity of perishable cargoranging from food to pharmaceuticalswhile keeping our medium-duty fleet safe, compliant, and on the road. Core Duties and Responsibilities

• Diagnostics & Repair: Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair complex mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration system failures on transport reefer units.
• Preventative Maintenance: Perform routine PM services on reefer units, including oil changes, belt replacements, filter upgrades, and checking structural components like evaporators and compressors.
• System Calibration: Monitor microprocessors, micro-controllers, and sensor arrays to ensure precise temperature control ranging from ambient to sub-zero scales.
• Refrigerant Management: Safely recover, evacuate, and charge refrigerants in strict compliance with EPA regulations. Conduct pinpoint leak tests, brazing, and component replacements.
• Electrical Troubleshooting: Diagnose 12V DC auxiliary systems, alternator issues, starters, wiring harnesses, and safety switch failures unique to mobile cooling units.
• Box Truck Inspection: Inspect the insulated box body, doors, and seals for thermal leaks, moisture entry, or damage that impacts cooling efficiency.
• Compliance & Documentation: Maintain detailed digital or paper logs of all repairs, parts used, and EPA refrigerant handling documents.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Experience: 4+ years of proven experience as a transport refrigeration tech or a strong expereince combining diesel/automotive mechanics with commercial HVAC/R.
• Technical Knowledge: Deep familiarity with Carrier Transicold and/or Thermo King small-to-medium truck units (e.g., direct-drive or small diesel-powered truck models).
• Tool Proficiency: Must possess a personal set of standard mechanical hand tools, multimeters, and refrigeration gauges.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work comfortably in tight spaces or variable weather conditions.
• Driver's License: A valid driver's license with a clean driving record (CDL is a plus but not strictly required for non-CDL box truck service vehicles).

Preferred Qualifications

• Thermo King or Carrier factory training/certifications.
• Experience working on small diesel engines powering independent reefer units.
• Welder or brazing certification.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $55000.00 - $82000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
