About this role

Job Title: Mechanical Design EngineerJob DescriptionThe Mechanical Design Engineer owns the electro-mechanical design of custom fan filter units (FFUs) and related clean-air products. You will translate customer equipment, process, and performance requirements into complete, manufacturable designs, including fan and motor selection, control and power circuits, sheet metal enclosures, and pneumatic or automation interfaces. This is a hands-on, customer-facing role where you work across sites, visit customers, and support the sales team on new projects while contributing to a rapidly growing business serving the data center sector.

Responsibilities

  • Own the electro-mechanical design of custom FFUs and related clean-air products from concept through release to manufacturing.
  • Translate customer equipment, process, and performance requirements into complete, manufacturable designs that meet fit, form, and function needs.
  • Select appropriate fans and motors, and define control and power circuits suitable for single-phase and three-phase power applications.
  • Design sheet metal enclosures for electronic components, ensuring proper layout, mounting, and integration of wiring, filters, and control hardware.
  • Develop and interpret wiring diagrams, circuit layouts, and enclosure details using CAD tools such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks or CREO.
  • Integrate pneumatic and automation interfaces into product designs, including tooling and tooling automation requirements where applicable.
  • Incorporate filtration, cleanroom, HVAC/airflow, and semiconductor equipment considerations into designs, including HEPA/ULPA filtration and related technologies.
  • Support the selection and integration of components such as variable frequency drives, EC motors, temperature and humidity control loops, and vibration-sensitive equipment.
  • Create and maintain bills of materials (BOMs) and related design documentation to support manufacturing and procurement.
  • Collaborate closely with sales and applications teams to support new projects, including customer visits and technical discussions.
  • Provide engineering support on existing products while learning the product portfolio, then transition into leading new design efforts.
  • Simultaneously support multiple existing products and at least one new design project, balancing sustaining engineering and new development activities.
  • Work closely with a small team of engineers to review designs, resolve technical issues, and continuously improve product performance and manufacturability.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of practical experience designing enclosures for electronic components.
  • Hands-on experience designing sheet metal components and enclosures for electro-mechanical products.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and SolidWorks or CREO for mechanical design, including sheet metal and wiring diagram layouts.
  • Knowledge of circuit design, control and power circuits, and how electrical components integrate into mechanical designs.
  • Experience designing or working with enclosures, controllers, and related electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Familiarity with pneumatics and automation interfaces as part of mechanical system design.
  • Experience with single-phase and three-phase power applications.
  • Ability to create and manage bills of materials (BOMs) and related engineering documentation.
  • Strong mechanical design skills, including fit, form, and function optimization for manufacturability.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with cleanroom or semiconductor equipment, HVAC/airflow systems, or filtration products.
  • Familiarity with HEPA/ULPA filtration, airborne molecular contamination (AMC) control, or ionization technologies.
  • Exposure to variable frequency drives, electronically commutated (EC) motors, and temperature/humidity control loops.
  • Experience working with vibration-sensitive equipment and designing to mitigate vibration effects.
  • Background in tooling and tooling automation for electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Understanding of clean-air products and their application in data centers or similar environments.
  • Comfort in customer-facing engineering roles, including site visits and technical support to sales teams.
  • Ability to learn new product lines quickly and transition from support work to leading design projects.
