About this role
Make your mark for patients
We are looking for a proactive, collaborative, and detail-focused Laboratory Equipment Operations Manager to join our UK Business Operations team, initially based in our Slough office and moving to Windlesham in April 2027.
About the role
You will coordinate the complete lifecycle of laboratory equipment that supports UK research. Acting as the operational link between scientists and specialist support teams, you will turn equipment requests into practical plans for funding, purchasing, installation, maintenance, relocation, and retirement. You will also maintain accurate capital expenditure and equipment records, helping ensure laboratories are ready before equipment arrives.
Who you’ll work with
You will be working in a developing UK Business Operations team alongside laboratory managers and a business operations coordinator. You will partner closely with scientists, Finance, Procurement, Information Technology, Safety and Wellbeing, Engineering, Facilities Management, Capital Projects, external service providers, and Business Operations colleagues in Belgium.
What you’ll do
- Coordinate laboratory equipment from initial request and budgeting through purchasing, installation, maintenance, relocation, replacement, and responsible disposal.
- Gather equipment requirements with scientists, including space, utilities, ventilation, software, digital connectivity, safety, engineering, and installation needs.
- Maintain accurate capital expenditure and laboratory equipment master records, pre-order documentation, order status, service agreements, repairs, moves, and retirements.
- Coordinate installation readiness with Finance, Procurement, Information Technology, Safety and Wellbeing, Engineering, Facilities Management, Capital Projects, and external partners.
- Support Slough and Windlesham laboratory infrastructure projects, building readiness, site transition activities, and improvements to cost, sustainability, and user experience.
- Provide accessible, service-focused support to scientific colleagues, independently prioritize issues, and communicate clear progress through completion.
Interested? For this role we’re looking for the following education, experience and skills
- A degree in science, engineering, business, or a related field, with experience in a research-intensive laboratory environment.
- Broad knowledge of scientific equipment and the practical infrastructure, safety, compliance, and facilities requirements of laboratories.
- Experience coordinating equipment purchasing, installation, maintenance, asset management, laboratory operations, or comparable end-to-end activities.
- Working knowledge of capital expenditure, budgeting, project coordination, and accurate data management using Microsoft Excel or asset databases.
- Clear, inclusive communication and strong stakeholder partnership skills across scientific, technical, commercial, and external service teams.
- A structured, pragmatic approach, with the ability to manage competing priorities autonomously and travel occasionally to Belgium.
