About this role

Make your mark for patients

We are looking for a Clinical Data Layer Lead who is collaborative, strategic, and outcomes-focused to join our Biometrics & Data Science team, based in any of our Brussels (Belgium), Monheim (Germany), Slough (UK) or Raleigh (US) offices.

About the role

You will own the vision, strategy, governance, adoption, and continued development of our Clinical Data Layer. As its Functional System Owner, you are going to help clinical data move securely and efficiently from source systems into trusted data products. Your work will enable study delivery, regulatory submissions, analytics, automation, and artificial intelligence-enabled workflows across the clinical development lifecycle.

Who you will work with

You will work within Biometrics & Data Science and partner with Clinical Data Management, Clinical Operations, Medical, Safety, Regulatory Affairs, Quality, Digital Technology, enterprise architecture, and external partners. You are going to connect business and technical communities, align priorities, and represent the Clinical Data Layer in governance forums, steering committees, and vendor discussions.

What you will do

  • You will define and communicate the long-term vision, roadmap, investment case, and business strategy for the Clinical Data Layer.
  • You will establish governance for data products, metadata, reference data, quality controls, access, stewardship, and measures of platform value.
  • You will partner with architecture and technology teams to enable scalable integration, common data models, interoperability, and reusable clinical data flows.
  • You will shape safe, high-value uses of artificial intelligence, intelligent automation, semantic models, knowledge graphs, and agent-based capabilities.
  • You will build cross-functional alignment and increase adoption through clear communication, training, user engagement, prioritisation, and change management.
  • You will ensure regulated use through Good Practice compliance, validation support, data integrity, auditability, traceability, inspection readiness, and risk management.

Interested? For this role, we are looking for the following education, experience, and skills:

  • You have a degree in data science, computer science, clinical informatics, life sciences, technology, statistics, or a related field.
  • You bring experience in clinical development, biometrics, clinical data management, or a related pharmaceutical research and development discipline.
  • You have led large-scale business transformation involving clinical data, digital capabilities, and global, cross-functional stakeholders in regulated environments.
  • You understand clinical data standards, metadata management, data architecture, statistical analysis workflows, governance, and the clinical development lifecycle.
  • You are familiar with cloud data platforms, data lakes, data products, application programming interfaces, and modern integration patterns.
  • You can connect business and technical perspectives and understand artificial intelligence, machine learning, agents, semantic layers, and modern data ecosystems.
