About this role
The English Martyrs Catholic School and Sixth Form College is looking to appoint a Head of Religious Education. As Head of Department for Religious Education in a Catholic secondary school, you will lead the development and delivery of a curriculum that reflects the teachings of the Catholic Church and supports the spiritual, moral, and academic growth of all pupils. This role is ideal for a passionate educator with strong subject knowledge, leadership skills, and a deep commitment to Catholic education.
You will be responsible for overseeing the RE department, ensuring that teaching is engaging, inclusive, and rooted in Gospel values. Your leadership will guide pupils in exploring faith, theology, ethics, and philosophy, while encouraging respectful dialogue and critical thinking. You will also play a key role in preparing students for key stages of sacramental and spiritual development.
Working closely with senior leaders, chaplaincy, and diocesan advisors, you will help embed Catholic ethos across the school, contribute to liturgical life, and support staff in delivering faith-based education. You will also mentor RE teachers, lead departmental planning, and monitor pupil progress to ensure high standards of learning and achievement.
This is a rewarding and influential role that combines academic leadership with spiritual stewardship, helping to shape a school culture where faith and learning flourish together.
