Sue Ryder is here to make sure everyone approaching the end of their life or living with grief can access the support they need. There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to how we cope and the help we need, but with our support, no one has to face dying or grief alone.

We are there when it matters.

About us

Sue Ryder offers a range of hospice and community nursing services in Berkshire West and South Oxfordshire, including Reading, Newbury, Wokingham, Wallingford and Henley, and many more local communities in between.

About the role

Our Therapy team consists of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and our Lymphoedema therapists.

We provide care to patients both in the community setting and at our Duchess of Kent Hospice in Reading. Your primary base will be Theale, but will be an expectation to travel, dependant on clinical demand.

The community Therapy teams work closely alongside our Medical and Nursing colleagues, so effective MDT working is essential.

Main duties of the job

As a member of the Occupational Therapy (OT) team, you will be expected to deliver a high-quality OT service within a palliative care setting by assessing, planning, implementing (directly or through others), and evaluating person-centred programmes of care. The post holder will work as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team to optimise patients quality of life, functional ability, and participation in meaningful activities.

About you

You are a compassionate and motivated Occupational Therapist committed to delivering high-quality, person-centred care within a palliative setting. You have a strong foundation in occupational therapy assessments and interventions, using sound clinical reasoning to support individuals in maintaining independence and engaging in meaningful activities. You are confident working both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, able to manage your own workload, prioritise effectively, and respond to complex and sensitive situations with professionalism.

You communicate clearly and empathetically, building positive relationships with patients, families, and colleagues. You are confident in assessing and managing risk and demonstrate a good understanding of relevant legislation and professional standards. You are organised, adaptable, and supportive of others development, offering guidance to junior staff, students, and assistants. Ideally, you will bring experience from a relevant setting.
