About this role
We are looking to recruit a Teacher of English to join our successful Faculty.
This role is an ideal opportunity for an Early Career Teacher or an experienced Teacher, who will be well supported by the excellent Leadership team within the Faculty.
Our KS3 Curriculum is centred around building the knowledge and skills students need to succeed. The KS3 units include lots of intentional writing practice; novel studies such as ‘Noughts and Crosses’, ‘The Book Thief’ and ‘Animal Farm’, regular poetry study; a unit on Nineteenth Century Writers; Shakespeare studies, as well as two whole plays (Romeo and Juliet, and Othello); and rhetoric. We take care to expose students to texts which will really engage them, whilst also giving them windows to worlds beyond their own experiences.
At KS4, we teach the AQA specification and study ‘Macbeth’, ‘An Inspector Calls’, ‘A Christmas Carol’, and the ‘Worlds and Lives’ poetry anthology. Recently, we have aimed to invest a lot more in our teaching of English Language and students actually have separate Teachers for Language and Literature. Our Language curriculum is skills-based, and in Year 10, we look at varied texts and techniques, building a strong foundation before we go near any exam papers.
At KS5, we offer English Literature (OCR) and English Language (AQA). The engagement of students at A Level is notable.
Our department is overseen by the Head of Faculty, supported by an Assistant Head of Faculty and a KS3 Coordinator. Staff are encouraged to take on extra responsibilities and run bespoke projects, if they so wish. We have high expectations and aspirations for students. This is underpinned by a commitment to excellent subject knowledge, delivering high-quality lessons, and continually improving and adapting our practice as Teachers. The English Department are a wonderful, positive and supportive team who work closely together to achieve strong outcomes for our students.
As our Faculty also offers Film Studies and a Creative and Digital Media BTEC, there are also opportunities to broaden and diversify your teaching practice.
The Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Shortlisted candidates will be subject to an online search in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education 2026 recommendations. Successful applicants will be subject to an enhanced DBS clearance.
