About this role

Job Summary

General Atomics (GA), and its affiliated companies, is one of the world’s leading resources for high-technology systems development ranging from the nuclear fuel cycle to remotely piloted aircraft, airborne sensors, and advanced electric, electronic, wireless and laser technologies.

We are seeking an Industrial Mechanic to join our Construction Services Group in San Diego, CA. This position supports small construction projects, tenant improvements, and facility modifications, as well as general multi-trade work including drywall repair, painting, minor plumbing, and basic building repairs.

This role will also support HVAC, electrical, and plumbing technicians with general tasks and assistance in the field.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on, self-driven individual who is comfortable working in a construction-oriented environment, performing a variety of tasks rather than specializing in single trade.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support small construction and renovation projects (patching, wall modifications, painting, minor installations)
  • Assist with tenant improvements and facility upgrades
  • Perform drywall repairs, patching, texturing, and painting
  • Provide field support to HVAC, electrical, and plumbing technicians during project execution
  • Assist with basic electrical and plumbing tasks under supervision
  • Read and follow basic layouts, prints, or field instructions
  • Perform general building repairs and support ongoing project work

We recognize and appreciate the value and contributions of individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences and welcome all qualified individuals to apply.

Job Qualifications

  • Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent and two or more years of progressive experience as an apprentice plumber or HVAC mechanic. Equivalent professional experience may be substituted in lieu of education.
  • 2-5 years of experience in construction support, general maintenance, or multi-trade work (drywall, painting, basic plumbing, and general repairs)
  • Experience supporting small construction projects, tenant improvements, or facility modifications
  • Basic electrical knowledge required (ability to safely perform simple tasks and assist under supervision)
  • Ability to read and follow basic layouts, field instructions, and able to read prints
  • Working knowledge of construction practices and building systems
  • Ability to safely operate hand and power tools
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with team members, vendors, and tenants
  • Good verbal and written communication skills to document and report work performed
  • Basic computer skills
  • Valid California driver’s license with good driving record
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, project-driven environment
