Team Overview

The Edward Jones Generations® team provides an end-to-end, High Net Worth (HNW) client experience by partnering with our branch teams to provide ongoing client services including holistic financial planning, tax and estate planning services via trusted 3rd parties, plan implementation via expanding sets of Edward Jones products and services, and ongoing reporting and support. Senior Estate Strategists leverage the extensive resources of our home office and external 3rd party partnerships to serve HNW with complex needs.

What You Will Do

The Family Governance & Dynamics Strategist serves as a senior subject-matter authority focused on helping multi-generational families navigate the human, organizational, and behavioral complexities associated with significant wealth.

Drawing on extensive real-world experience and established academic research, the Strategist develops and advances family governance and dynamics capabilities that enhance client outcomes. The role directly supports complex client situations through the facilitation of multi-generational family meetings, the development of governance frameworks, and guidance addressing family communication, decision-making, succession, and stewardship.

Working collaboratively with advisors, planners, estate strategists, tax strategists, trust officers, and other specialists, the Strategist helps families align their values, relationships, and decision-making structures with their broader wealth and legacy objectives. The role also deploys scalable resources, education, and workflows that enable Generations associates to effectively address family governance and dynamics needs while preserving strategist capacity for the most complex client situations.

Core Responsibilities include

  • Design and facilitate structured family meetings, retreats, and working sessions that help families articulate shared values, vision, priorities, and operating principles.
  • Guide families in developing appropriate formal and informal governance structures, including family constitutions and charters, family councils, advisory boards, decision-making frameworks, and voting or consensus guidelines.
  • Advise family leaders and rising generations on navigating communication barriers, wealth transparency, inheritance expectations, changing family roles, and other sensitive issues associated with significant and multi-generational wealth.
  • Help families identify and constructively navigate interpersonal and generational dynamics that may affect family cohesion, decision-making, succession, or long-term stewardship.
  • Partner with the broader advisory team to ensure family governance recommendations complement the family's financial, estate, tax, trust, philanthropic, and business succession strategies.
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to develop and deliver progressive educational pathways that prepare rising generations for the responsibilities associated with significant wealth.
  • Support education related to financial literacy, responsible ownership, fiduciary responsibilities, governance participation, board readiness, philanthropy, and stewardship of inherited wealth.
  • Help families establish development approaches that progressively prepare future generations for appropriate levels of participation, responsibility, and decision-making.
  • Provide subject-matter leadership in the development and deployment of family governance and dynamics resources, including frameworks, assessment tools, workbooks, white papers, meeting guides, and self-directed toolkits.
  • Translate leading research and practical experience into actionable resources and methodologies that can be consistently applied across Generations.
  • Train and coach Generations associates to recognize family dynamics and governance inflection points, including liquidity events, wealth transitions, estate events, business succession, changes in family leadership, and generational transitions.
  • Equip Generations associates to appropriately integrate governance and dynamics resources into comprehensive wealth planning, creating a scalable service model while preserving strategist capacity for the most complex and high-value client situations.

Position Requirements

What Experience You Need

  • 10+ years of directly relevant experience developing family governance capabilities and providing client-facing guidance in family governance, family dynamics, facilitation, succession, or related disciplines within a HNW or ultra HNW private wealth platform, private bank, family office, or specialized governance consulting firm.
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Advanced degree preferred, including a J.D., master's or doctorate in Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, Organizational Behavior, Behavioral Finance, or another discipline relevant to family governance, or intergenerational wealth
  • Demonstrated experience developing practical family governance resources, methodologies, educational programs, or frameworks for use with complex client families
  • Deep specialization in advising ultra-high-net-worth, multigenerational families on governance structures, succession, stewardship, decision-making, and the transition of wealth and responsibility across generations
  • Extensive experience designing and facilitating high-stakes family meetings, retreats, and board-level discussions, particularly where complex relationships, competing priorities, or generational differences require skilled facilitation
  • Experience preparing future generations for responsible ownership and stewardship through progressive education in financial literacy, governance participation, fiduciary responsibility, philanthropy, board readiness, and family leadership
  • Significant experience advising sophisticated clients and families on high-value, complex decisions, with the executive presence and judgment necessary to serve as a trusted subject-matter authority to both clients and advisors

*Candidates that live within a commutable distance from our Tempe, AZ and St. Louis, MO home office locations are expected to work in the office four days per week.
