- Job Duties and Responsibilities As a Manufacturing Tooling and Process Design Intern, you will learn the various assembly steps required for the manufacturing of electric motors and/or traction inverters.
- You will be responsible for creating a generic document that consolidates all possible subassemblies required for manufacturing a unit.
- Each subassembly will be broken down into individual operations, indicating whether specific tooling and/or equipment is required.
- You will also associate examples of previously designed tooling for more complex operations.
- Ideally, an estimate of the design time required for each type of tooling will be established.
- This document will serve as a reference guide for tracking tooling and fixture requirements on future projects.
- It will help evaluate the workload associated with a project, estimate realistic delivery timelines, and verify equipment availability for each operation.
- To achieve these objectives, you will work with various professionals, including assembly technicians, advanced process specialists, designers, project managers, and test specialists.
- They will share details about the operations for which they are responsible.
- You will participate in project meetings from project kick-off through design reviews and final delivery.
- You will also observe assembly and testing operations.
- Participation in these activities and meetings will enable you to gather the information necessary to successfully complete your objectives.
- Learn and understand motor and/or inverter manufacturing operations.
- Break down assemblies into subassemblies.
- Identify each operation required to manufacture subassemblies and determine any associated tooling requirements.
- Create a generic document that allows users to select the operations required for a project and identify which operations require tooling.
- Identify and document the various test benches and their specific characteristics.
- Identify an existing tooling design for each operation and include it as a reference example.
- Evaluate the time required to design each type of tooling.
- Sequence the order in which tooling should be developed by the design team.
Participation in Special Projects
- Contribute to the upgrade of prototyping equipment (e.g., laser welding equipment).
- Access and use 3D printing resources to support specific projects.
