The Opportunity

Help shape the architecture behind meaningful healthcare decisions. At UVM Health, you will translate business needs into secure, scalable, and dependable data-platform designs that support the teams delivering and improving care.

This architecture-focused role lets you influence platform direction, evaluate technology choices, and establish patterns that guide implementation. Working with data engineering, enterprise IT, cybersecurity, and analytics, you will connect long-term modernization goals with practical delivery. Your production experience will ground architectural decisions in reliability, security, cost, and sustainable operations.

Core Responsibilities

  • Platform architecture: Develop reference architectures and integration patterns spanning cloud infrastructure, data ingestion, storage, processing, orchestration, and analytics.
  • Technology strategy: Evaluate platform options and technical trade-offs. Recommend modernization roadmaps that balance business value, existing dependencies, delivery capacity, and cost.
  • Architecture standards: Define reusable patterns for infrastructure as code, CI/CD, environment separation, identity, connectivity, and data access within enterprise standards.
  • Resilience and governance: Establish design requirements for observability, data quality, security, recovery, performance, and cost. Partner with engineering teams to validate them through practical testing.
  • Technical leadership: Lead design reviews, document decisions, guide implementation partners, and mentor engineers. Validate critical designs through prototypes and confirm operational readiness before production handoff.

Required Qualifications

  • Relevant experience: Five years of relevant cloud, data engineering, or platform experience, including five years of direct production data-platform responsibility, with demonstrated architecture and design contributions.
  • Cloud and data platforms: Five years of hands-on experience in each of AWS, Databricks, and Snowflake. Depth across infrastructure, lakehouse and warehouse design, ingestion, orchestration, identity, networking, security, deployment, performance, and cost, including production implementation and operations.
  • Microsoft data ecosystem: Five years across Fabric and related technologies such as Synapse, Azure Data Factory, or Power BI engineering. Direct Fabric proficiency in workspace, lakehouse or warehouse, pipeline, and deployment design is required; five years in Fabric itself is not.
  • Automation and delivery: Practical knowledge of infrastructure as code, CI/CD, Python, and SQL, supported by production delivery and tested data-recovery experience.
  • Architectural judgment: Ability to translate requirements into designs, explain trade-offs, and align technical and business stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Architecture breadth: Hybrid and multicloud integration, container platforms such as Kubernetes, or enterprise architecture practices.
  • Healthcare and modernization: Healthcare or regulated-environment experience, Epic familiarity, migration planning, or implementation-partner oversight.
  • Professional credentials: Relevant cloud architecture, data-platform, security, or reliability certifications.
