Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a fixed-term Locum Consultant in Infection (Virology) to join the Infection Directorate within the Oncology, Rare Diseases, Liver and Digestive Health Division at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust for 3 months.
This locum post is being recruited to provide cover for an approved consultant career break within the Virology service.
The successful candidate will join a highly specialised tertiary virology service supporting transplant, HIV, viral hepatitis, renal, antenatal, oncology and immunosuppressed patient pathways across the Trust.
This is a 9.1667 PA post and applications from candidates wishing to work less than full time (LTFT) are welcome.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide 9.1667 Programmed Activities (PAs) of Consultant Virologysupport and will:Contribute to the provision of the clinical and diagnostic Virology service across theTrust for the duration of the locum appointment.
This will include:Participation in the clinical duties of the department at the Royal Free site, includingdaily clinical duty commitments on a pro-rata basis.Participation in Virology handover meetings, multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings,and Virology ward rounds.Provision of specialist clinical advice relating to virology and infections inimmunocompromised patients.Participation in service delivery and operational support to maintain continuity of careand laboratory liaison during the period of temporary consultant absence.Contribution to the review and implementation of existing clinical guidelines, policies,and pathways in line with established departmental practice.
Participation in the department's quality assurance, clinical governance, and auditactivities, including review of clinical incidents and laboratory-related concerns whereappropriate.Provision of specialist Virology liaison support to foetal-maternal medicine servicesand wider Infection services across Trust sites.Support for the integration of clinical activities within the wider pan-infection service,including liaison with Infectious Diseases, Infection Prevention and Control, andMicrobiology teams.

Full and Specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for registration within six months of interview. FRCPath (or equivalent) Applicants that are UK trained, must be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.
