The Director, Accounting Strategy & Operations is a senior accounting leader responsible for advancing strategic and operational priorities across the Controller organization. Reporting directly to the SVP, Controller & Principal Accounting Officer, this role will support priorities led by both the Controller and Assistant Controller and will lead complex accounting and business matters that require strong judgment, cross-functional coordination, and disciplined execution.

The ideal candidate is an enterprise-minded leader with strong accounting expertise, sound business judgment, and the ability to translate broad priorities into practical action. The portfolio of responsibilities will evolve based on business needs and organizational priorities, enabling the Director to work across accounting, financial reporting, processes, systems, data, technology, and controls while maintaining a clear focus on accounting integrity, business outcomes, and effective collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting Strategy & Leadership

  • Translate priorities established by the Controller and Assistant Controller into clear plans, decisions, accountable ownership, and measurable outcomes across the Controller organization.
  • Lead strategic and operational accounting priorities from initial assessment and problem solving through implementation, execution, and sustained adoption.
  • Provide accounting leadership and judgment on complex business transactions, operating matters, and emerging issues, partnering with relevant subject matter experts as appropriate.

Cross-Functional Partnership & Enterprise Execution

  • Lead or support cross-functional initiatives with accounting, financial reporting, process, systems, data, technology, or internal control implications.
  • Partner with Corporate Accounting and other Controller teams on matters that cross traditional functional boundaries or require broader coordination, while maintaining direct accountability for assigned priorities.
  • Work with business, brand, regional, and functional leaders to understand operational issues, assess accounting and reporting implications, and develop practical solutions that support both near-term execution and long-term business needs.
  • Bring together stakeholders across functions, brands, and regions; build alignment where perspectives differ; and influence outcomes where direct reporting relationships may not exist.

Business Change & Accounting Operations

  • Support accounting considerations associated with new business models, transactions, systems, processes, and organizational changes.
  • Evaluate the use of data, automation, analytics, and emerging technologies to strengthen decision-making and improve accounting outcomes.
  • Evaluate existing processes and ways of working and identify opportunities to simplify, strengthen, standardize, or improve execution without duplicating the ownership of established functional or control optimization teams.
  • Help ensure accounting requirements and appropriate controls are considered as business processes, systems, and operating models evolve.

Decision Support & Risk Management

  • Anticipate and surface opportunities, risks, dependencies, and decisions to the Controller, Assistant Controller, and other senior leaders early enough to influence outcomes.
  • Translate complex accounting, business, and operational matters into clear implications, recommendations, and actions for senior leadership.
  • Make timely, well-reasoned decisions that balance accounting requirements, risk, business impact, consumer and brand considerations, and execution practicality.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Build capability across the Controller organization through coaching, knowledge sharing, meaningful feedback, and the development of talent for broader enterprise needs.
  • Set clear expectations, reinforce accountability, and create an inclusive environment where others can contribute, challenge, and grow.
  • Model courage, adaptability, curiosity, humility, self-awareness, and a strong focus on outcomes over activity.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in accounting, controllership, financial reporting, public accounting, or a related discipline, including experience leading complex work in a global or multi-entity organization.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA or equivalent professional accounting qualification strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, accounting processes, and internal controls, with the ability to apply technical requirements to practical business situations.
  • Demonstrated success leading complex, cross-functional initiatives involving multiple stakeholders, competing priorities, and evolving requirements.
  • Strong strategic and integrative thinking, with the ability to connect business, accounting, people, process, systems, risk, and control considerations.
  • Sound decision-making and judgment, including the ability to act with appropriate speed when information is incomplete or circumstances are changing.
  • Strong executive communication skills, including the ability to simplify complex matters, frame choices and trade-offs, and deliver clear recommendations.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across functions, brands, and regions and to influence senior stakeholders without relying on direct authority.
  • Experience coaching and developing others, setting clear expectations, providing candid feedback, and building inclusive, high-performing teams or project groups.
  • Working knowledge of technology-enabled change, data analytics, automation, systems implementations, or other digital capabilities relevant to accounting and controllership.
