Job summary
The successful candidate will oversee the day-to-day management of buildings, maintenance, stock and facilities at Lancaster Medical Practice. The post-holder will ensure the premises and associated services are safe, compliant, operationally effective and welcoming for patients, clinicians and staff. They will also lead on statutory compliance, supervise contractors and support business continuity, and drive ongoing improvement in estate and facilities performance, including the delivery of high-quality cleaning services aligned to healthcare standards.
Main duties of the job
Operational estate management: Day-to-day oversight of building fabric, plant utilities, security, and cleaning services to maintain safe, compliant and high-quality environments for patient care.Cleaning services management: Accountable for the delivery of cleaning services across all sites, ensuring consistently high standards appropriate to a healthcare environment. Establish and maintain cleaning standards, schedules and procedures; ensure effective quality assurance through regular audits and inspections; manage performance and drive continuous improvement.Compliance & risk: Own responsibility for ensuring premises, equipment and cleaning services meet required healthcare standards and statutory obligations, including alignment with CQC regulations, Health Technical Memoranda (HTM), fire safety and water safety requirements. Maintain records, carry out risk assessments and implement remedial action.Planned & reactive maintenance: Manage planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules, service contracts and a reactive repairs process to minimise downtime and clinical disruption. Monitor service levels and contractor performance.Project & estates development: Lead small capital and refurbishment projects (scope, procurement, contractor management), ensure works meet clinical needs and HTM/HBN guidance. Liaise with NHS/PCN estates guidance where applicable.People & contractors: Line manage estates/facilities staff, including cleaning services and external contractors.

Person Specification
Skills/Knowledge Essential
Understanding of cleaning standards and quality assurance processes within healthcare or similar environments Good general computer skills, including the ability to use Microsoft Office, email and the internet. Evidence of excellent administration and organisational skills.
Qualifications Essential
English & Maths GCSE (or equivalent) Level C or equivalent experience.
Desirable
NEBOSH General Certificate. IWFM Membership.
Experience Essential
Previous experience that demonstrates good attention to detail. Previous experience of Facilities Management.
Desirable
Experience of working in a confidential environment. Previous experience of working in General Practice, NHS or Healthcare setting.
