Job summary

Matron Critical Care and Outreach - Band 8a

Full time hours - 37.5hrs/week - Permanent

The Matron will ensure the delivery of exceptional patient centred and safe care to patients across Critical Care. The Matron should be highly visible and accessible. They should be an exemplaryrole model for nurses, leading by example and empowering staff to undertake a greater range ofclinical tasks to modernise and improve patient care. This role is key to supporting the delivery of the Nursing and Midwifery Strategy.

You will be responsible for maintaining an environment which is conducive to the delivery and maintenance of a high standard of patient centred care, with the delivery of good communicationand relationships between staff within the hospital and outside agencies, patients, relatives and visitors.

You will be responsible for enhancing existing services in and establishing new ways of working focussing on quality, innovation, productivity and prevention. You will be expected to participate in Greater Manchester Critical Care Network Meetings.

They will provide clinical and managerial leadership to a defined clinical area, ensuring that nursing standards are monitored and maintained; that the patient's environment is safe and meets environmental standards; that Department budgets are balanced and that staff are personally andprofessionally developed. Provide strong management support to the Head of Nursing for Surgery, Women's and Children's.

Main duties of the job

1. PROFESSIONAL / CLINICAL: To act as a role model to provide expert advice and to demonstrate best practice in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.

2. To be an active agent of change and ensure the role of the Team Leader is continuously developed in line with local circumstances and national standards.

3. To ensure the overall effective use of resources and continuous improvements in service delivery.

4. Responsibility and accountability for assisting to manage budgets with the Band 7's and Business Manager and leading on the performance and modernisation agenda within Critical Care,

5. To support the Trust's corporate objectives and the processes by which they are achieved, including clinical governance, controls assurance, risk management and capacity planning

6. To support complaint investigations as and when required, compiling responses to be made available for signature as appropriate.

7. To participate in the First on-call rota.

8. To have lead responsibility for the delivery of patient care across Critical Care.

9. To lead service design and redesign with staff in developing programmes of care and patient pathways to provide the best evidence based care that the organisation can deliver.

10. Provide effective, professional leadership and co-ordination throughout Critical Care.

Registered Nurse Degree in Nursing OR working towards OR equivalent level of study OR equivalent experience Demonstrates extensive experience at senior level (Band 7) Surgical Experience at a senior level (Band 7) Demonstrate evidence of extensive post registration experience of nurse management experience in an acute Trust or Healthcare Economy.
