About this role

Job summary

The service provides opportunity for a patient pathway through services for male patients who have been identified with major and complex mental health needs requiring treatment in a low secure environment. Referrals are received countywide from acute psychiatric services, community mental health teams and other secure services/prisons throughout the country. The client demographic is adult males 18 - 65 and will include people who are subject to Part 3 of the Mental Health Act, including Restricted patients. Wheatfield unit has a close working relationship with the adjacent ward, Meadowbank and PICU.

Main duties of the job

Provide clinical leadership to the team and take clinical responsibility for the assessment and treatment of patients as part of a multidisciplinary clinical team. Undertake clinical sessions at a prison and attend to all relevant matters there as a senior clinician and leader within that service.

Person Specification

Knowledge and Experience Essential

oIn good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice oDemonstrate commitment to shared leadership & collaborative working to deliver improvement oAbility to work independently as well as part of A MDT oAble to form a good working relationship with the peer group oWillingness to undertake training and CPD in areas appropriate to this post oAbility to work under pressure oWillingness to participate in in-house training oAbility to motivate and develop junior Medical Staff and other MDT members oPost holder will need to take initiative and work in a self-directed manner. oTo balance individual requirements against those of the Directorate and Trust as a whole

Knowledge and Experience Essential

oMRCPsych or equivalent oFull GMC Registration oOn Specialist Register/CCT in Forensic oPsychiatry or General Adult Psychiatry with appropriate forensic experience (eg.one year forensic attachment as higher trainee) or eligible for inclusion within six months. oMinimum of six years postgraduate experience (including three years as SpR in approved training post) or equivalent oPart of this period may be in a post of equivalent responsibility and training. oApproval under Section12 of the Mental Health Act

oExcellent written and verbal communication skills and evidence of the ability to communicate with patients, colleagues and staff at all levels. oAbility to present complex information to a variety of audiences including courts and tribunals oAbility to motivate and develop junior Medical Staff and other MDT members oAn understanding of the political and financial framework within which the Services operate oAble to meet duties under MHA and MCA oAn understanding of the political and financial framework within which the Services operate oAn understanding of the use of security in the treatment of psychiatric patients oAn understanding of the dynamics of working with damaged and disturbed patients. oAwareness of the national agenda for secure psychiatric care and criminal justice.
