Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a Registered Mental Health Nurse to join the Chorley Inpatient Mental Health Units at Chorley and South Ribble General Hospital.

A passionate, empathic and resilient personality is essential, along with positive and collaborative teamwork skills in order to maintain a safe and positive culture that promotes patient recovery.

Main duties of the job

Chorley Inpatient Unit consists of 3 wards and a 136 suite. Worden Ward is a 15 bedded Male Assessment and Treatment ward, Duxbury ward is a 15 bedded Female Assessment and Treatment Ward, and Avenham Ward is a 6 bedded Female Psychiatric Intensive Care Ward.

The Inpatient wards / units are designed to meet the acute holistic needs of service users/patients and carers, in a person centred recovery focussed environment. This working environment is conducive to staff development and wellbeing. The post holder will support staff members in the assessment, planning and provision of care in line with national and local nursing and health and safety policy. The post holder will exercise professional accountability and responsibility demonstrating use of professional skills, knowledge and expertise in the provision of high quality care. The post holder will adopt integral role in the development of junior staff and quality improvement to enhance patient, carer and staff experience. There is an expectation that the post holder will utilise research audit and enquiry to lead improvements in care

Person Specification

Education/ Qualifications Essential

Registered Mental Health Nurse qualification On-going registration with the NMC. Specialist qualification or equivalent level in skills and development Evidence of commitment to continuing professional development

Knowledge Essential

Understanding of Health and Safety policies and procedures Knowledge and practice of Mental Health Act 1983 Knowledge and practice of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 Demonstrate understanding of how research has influenced practice Can provide evidence of recent professional/personal development

Experience Essential

Supervision and management of staff Able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team Experience of assessing, planning and implementing and reviewing care needs Experienced in acting as a mentor/assessor of student staff Experience of CPA

Personal Essential

Ability to undertake effective aggression management including the use of physical restraint Skill in motivating and managing chance in self and others Good interpersonal skills Developed clinical and managerial skills Can demonstrate communication skills through practice and experience
