About this role

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Medicine Division at the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust. We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated, enthusiastic Service Manager for our Endoscopy Department. The role will provide operational support to our three fast paced, dynamic Endoscopy Units based at the Royal Derby Hospital, Queens Hospital Burton and Sir Robert Peel, Tamworth.

The successful candidate will be expected to build close working relationships with our clinicians and administrative teams, requiring excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to service improvement.

Main duties of the job

Monitoring national performance targets, such as waiting times and cancer pathway standards, and implementing action plans. Line managing administrative or clinical teams, including recruitment, training, appraisal, and developing a supportive environment. Ensuring service compliance with JAG (Joint Advisory Group) standards, including clinical audits, incident reporting, and patient experience reviews. Reviewing capacity, demand, and patient feedback to identify areas for service improvement and development. Closing date of applications: 26 May 2026

An average of 1115 patients are seen in A&Es across our network every day - 3rd largest in the country. Our hospitals admit an average of 195 emergency patients daily. Last year we undertook almost 33,700 planned surgical operations in our 57 operating theatres. We are one of only 7 Trusts nationally with more than 50 operating theatres. We carry out more than 140 elective procedures each working day. Substantial experience within the Healthcare sector at senior manager level Educated to degree level (or equivalent knowledge gained through experience) with management experience, preferably in an operational environment.

Desirable

Experience of managing day-to-day operations in an endoscopy unit Experience of capacity planning to manage waiting times. Experience working in an acute hospital and/or cancer services

Knowledge Essential

Ability to motivate staff to deliver challenging targets

Experience Essential

Experience of managing Key Performance Indicators and targets in a healthcare setting
