The Commercial Opportunities Manager will lead the identification, development, and delivery of commercial opportunities across Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust and Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust. The role is responsible for maximising income generation, improving financial sustainability, and ensuring that commercial activities align with organisational strategy, NHS policy, and patient care priorities.
The post holder will operate at a senior level across organisational boundaries, working collaboratively with clinical, operational, and corporate leaders to identify opportunities for revenue generation, cost recovery, service innovation, and strategic partnerships.
The role requires a high degree of autonomy, strategic thinking, and influence, ensuring that commercial opportunities are fully evaluated, prioritised, and delivered to achieve measurable financial and service benefits.
Main duties of the job
Lead the development of a group-wide commercial opportunities strategy aligned to organisational and system priorities. Identify, evaluate, and prioritise commercial opportunities including new service lines, partnerships, private patient activity, research income, and external funding streams. Proactively scan the internal and external environment to identify commercial opportunities across acute and community services. Responsible for maintaining existing and establishing new industry partnerships and academic partnerships Develop robust business cases, including financial modelling, risk assessment, and return on investment analysis. Lead the end-to-end delivery of commercial initiatives, from concept through to implementation and evaluation. Deliver agreed income generation and cost improvement targets associated with commercial activities. Develop and maintain financial models to assess viability and track performance of commercial initiatives. Build and maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders including clinical leaders, service managers, and corporate teams. Develop external partnerships with private sector organisations, third sector providers, academic institutions, and industry.

EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS Essential
Degree level education or equivalent experience Programme management qualifications or equivalent expertise
EXPERIENCE/ KNOWLEDGE Essential
Significant senior management experience within the NHS or a comparable complex organisation. Proven track record of developing and delivering commercial or income-generating initiatives. Experience of commercial negotiations and contract management.
