Job summary
The Coronary Care Unit at Torbay Hospital is looking for highly motivated, innovative and experienced senior nurse to lead our dynamic team. The CCU consists of 8 monitored beds and a 6 bedded Chest pain Unit.
The unit directly admits patients suffering from a Myocardial Infarction and cares for other acute cardiac conditions.
We have close working relationships with Dunlop, Cardiac Catheter Suite, Cardiac Research team and Cardiac specialist nurses
The successful post holder will be expected to:-
To manage, communicate with, and lead a team of nursing staff, consisting of specialist nurses, registered nurses, housekeepers and ward clerks to deliver high standards of care within the Coronary Care Unit.
To communicate with Cardiologists, Operational Managers, Cardiology unit managers
To manage service needs within the department relating to Government and Trust initiatives, ensuring targets are defined, met and continued.
To proactively manage the Coronary Care Unit, ensuring staff, service needs, trust and unit targets are met.
To manage a defined budget in conjunction with the matron
To participate in the senior nurse weekend cover rota for medicine and urgent care
Main duties of the job
The post holder will have continuous 24hr responsibility for leading and co-ordinating the clinical and managerial requirements for the Coronary Care Unit, to cover all grades of the Nursing team. This includes acting as an expert resource for the nursing team and supporting them in the delivery of evidence based, effective care.
The post holder will adopt a highly visible and accessible approach for patients, their carers/relatives and staff and their role will be focused to support the unit as a whole. He/she will lead by example and empower staff in their personal and professional development to undertake a greater range of clinical skills to modernise and improve patient care, including updates of essential training.
The post holder will be expected to play a proactive role in quality and service improvement working closely with the Matron and the medical leads and will be responsible for the monitoring and auditing of clinical standards of care.
The post holder will ensure high quality communication and support for acutely ill cardiac patients and their families and carers, and safe transfer or discharge.
The post holder will oversee the support of patients who require End of Life care, and their families/carers

To deploy and supervise all nursing staff effectively Acts as an expert resource on nursing care of patients within the speciality and holds a key role in the multidisciplinary team Contributes to the supervision and education and training of other health care professionals as required to ensure all staff on the ward have the appropriate skills/knowledge and support, identified by regular staff appraisal and annual personal development plan
