About this role
Job summary
This is a traditional small family practice and we are seeking a traditional small practice family GP (of any size!).
We have 2,200 patients and two doctors serving a small town with a stable population ten miles west of the Tyne Bridge.
We pride ourselves on very long term personal continuity of care and very high levels of patient satisfaction.
We need someone who is kind, committed to caring, flexible in terms of time and prepared to work hard when needed. We are looking for someone who enjoys being a GP and can have fun at work.
It is also important that we find someone with a head for business and an ability to navigate today's NHS to help take this 'not your average practice' into the 2040s and maybe beyond.
We are ideally looking for someone for 8 sessions per week but we can be flexible -depending on who replies- if you are interested in anything between 4 sessions and 8 then feel free to let us know why you would be the best candidate for the job.
Main duties of the job
As there are only two doctors here you will need to be a GP who is comfortable with all aspects of the role.
About us
Our team consists at present of one doctor who works 4 full days and one who works 4 mornings. We have two practice nurses -one working 3 days and the other just one.
We have a practice manager, two receptionists and a secretary -all of whom work part time.
This is our core team and we enjoy working together. We are able to support each other well and there is a substantial overlap of job roles which makes the jobs more interesting and rewarding.
We have a physio and a mental health worker who come fortnightly and a pharmacist who comes monthly.
We work alongside our district nurses and health visitors but they do not work out of our building.
Job description
Job responsibilities
We are looking for a committed GP -and are not sure that there is a better job description!
The Adderlane Surgery has some strong advantages and, in 2026, some unusual features -but we believe that working here can help restore (or maintain!) your faith in the joys of general practice.
There have, we believe, only been six partners in this practice since the 1870s -two of whom are still here. We have patients in their 80s who have only ever had two GPs -and we think this is near to unique in England. Patient turnover is very low -as is staff turnover. If you have recognised the value of long term personal continuity of care, then do consider whether this might be the place for you.
You are welcome to ring or arrange to visit the practice for further information.
