Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly organised and motivated individual to train as a High Intensity Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) Therapist with Staffordshire University, commencing September 2025. The clinical placement will be a fixed-term post with Black Country Talking Therapies
Successful applicants will either hold:
A recorded/registered qualification at graduate level in nursing, social work, occupational therapy, arts therapy or within a psychological therapy.
Or
Be able to demonstrate evidence of Knowledge Skills and Attitude (KSA) requirements of BABCP.
If you are currently working as a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP), at least 2 years of post-qualification experience is an essential requirement.

If you are shortlisted for you will be invited to an Academic Screening Exercise (in person on the 25th June 2026 at the Stoke Campus) . Following the academic screening, all successful candidates will then be invited to an interview.
Main duties of the job
In this role the post holder will be required to attend 2 days of teaching with Staffordshire University, and provide 3 days of clinical practice per week offering assessment and High Intensity Treatment to patients presenting with common mental health problems including Depression and all anxiety disorders. The post holder will receive appropriate support and supervision throughout their training journey.
Both the academic teaching and clinical placement are expected to take place via a blended approach i.e. be a combination of in-person and remote working.

Job description Job responsibilities
The post holder will be a trainee across the Black Country Talking Therapies , and they will be delivering high intensity CBT interventions learnt whilst undertaking the academic components of the role.
The post holder will be expected to undertake professional postgraduate training in CBT alongside the delivery of psychological therapies as part of the Stepped Care Model. Working at Step 3 the post holder will learn and deliver a range of evidence based interventions, for the treatment of Depression and Anxiety Disorders.

Experience Essential
Core Profession or other relevant vocational role. Ability to meet agreed/specified service targets. Ability to manage own caseload and time. Demonstrates high standards in written communication.
Desirable
Experience of working in Primary Care Services.
Knowledge Essential
Demonstrates an understanding of anxiety and depression and how it may present in Primary Care. Demonstrates an understanding for the need to use evidence based psychological therapies and how it relates to this post.
Desirable
Demonstrates a knowledge of the issues surrounding work and the impact it can have on mental health. Knowledge of medication used in anxiety and depression and other common mental health problems.
Skills / Personal Qualities Essential
Ability to evaluate and put in place the effects of training. Has received training (either formal of through experience) and carried out risk assessments within scope of practice. Able to develop good therapeutic relationships with clients.
