About this role

Job summary

As aService Coordinator, you will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme, helping patients navigate their screening journey and ensuring they receive timely, safe, and high-quality care. This is far more than a traditional administrative role. You will be at the heart of a multidisciplinary team, coordinating complex patient pathways, supporting specialist nurses and clinicians, and contributing to a service that helps detect bowel cancer early and improve outcomes for patients.

If you are passionate about making a difference, enjoy working as part of a supportive team, and want to contribute to one of the NHS's most successful cancer prevention programmes, we would love to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work within the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme as part of the administrative team at St Mark's Bowel Cancer Screening Centre, providing high-quality coordination and administrative support to ensure the effective delivery of the screening pathway.

This role requires an experienced administrator with specialist knowledge of a defined clinical service, who can work independently within established procedures, exercising judgement to prioritise workload, resolve issues, and support service performance. The post holder will coordinate patient pathways including referrals, appointments, clinics, and follow-up, ensuring compliance with national screening standards and cancer waiting time targets.

The Service Coordinator will maintain accurate and timely data across local and national systems, contribute to audit and quality assurance processes, and monitor activity to identify and escalate risks to service delivery.

The post holder will liaise closely with Specialist Screening Practitioners, endoscopy services, the NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Hub, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless patient care. Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and confidence in the use of multiple IT systems are essential.

The role involves regular patient contact, requiring professionalism, empathy, and a commitment to high standards of service. An Enhanced DBS check (including barring) is required.
