Job summary

We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our well integrated team; an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Royal College of Surgeons of England approved Peri-CCT Fellowship in Reconstructive, Functional and Robotic Urology, the only one of its kind in the UK. This post is based at the Freeman Hospital. This post is available from October 2026 for 12 months.

The post holder will undertake clinical duties within the Department of Urology. The timetable will conform to the Specialist Advisory Committee Modular curriculum in Female, Reconstructive and Neuro-urology.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide clinical care and be trained in advanced Female and Functional urology, including robotic surgery within the Department of Urology. In addition, the post holder will be expected to undertake clinical research with the aim of presenting and publishing their work.

Job description Job responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

The post holder will be an active member of the Urology team and will work as a senior specialist registrar on the Reconstructive and Functional Urology team. They will also take part in the middle grade on call rota. There will also be opportunity for cross-speciality working with Urogynaecology.

The post is both New Deal and EWTD compliant.

Flexibility:

In line with the Trusts core value of placing patients at the heart of everything we do, we are developing our service provision to be responsive to the needs of our patients. To meet those needs some staff groups will be increasingly asked to work a more flexible work pattern so that they can offer services in the evening or weekend. As a result any offer of employment to a consultant post will be subject to you agreeing to work a new more flexible pattern or working in the future if required, including evening and weekend work.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications Essential

Primary Medical Qualification Full MRCS. Full GMC registration or eligibility to obtain this within 3 months 4 years+ experience of specialty training in Urology

Desirable

FRCS (Urol) or equivalent qualification Intercalated BSc or equivalent Previous evidence of research activity Hold CCT in Urology

Clinical Skills and Knowledge Essential

Satisfactory completion of training to a minimum of ST6 standard or equivalent (Urology national curriculum). Must have previous experience in female and functional urology from prior training rotations Appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems Evidence of self-reflective practice Good history & examination skills. Able to formulate a working diagnosis Able to order appropriate investigations Image interpretation relevant to practice Knows when to appropriately seek assistance from a senior colleague

Desirable

Broad range of experience in urology and surgery in general. Demonstration of commitment to pursue a career in Reconstructive and Functional Urology Some exposure to robotic urology (introduction to robotics course)

Maintaining Clinical Competence Essential

Written evidence of satisfactory training to date e.g. workplace assessments.

Teaching Essential

Able to contribute to teaching and learning of others in the clinical setting.

Desirable

Experience in teaching undergraduate medical students & junior doctors/nurses Contribution to Departmental training sessions

Clinical Governance, Audit and Research Essential

Demonstrates understanding of the importance of audit and research.
