Trainee High Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapists are employed on one-year fixed term training contract, involving a clinical placement where you will manage a high-volume caseload alongside undertaking the Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (PGDip CBT) where you will be required to meet frequent academic deadlines.

This is a 12-month training contract, upon successful completion of the course a permanent post will be available. Successful candidates should be available to begin the role approximately mid-September 2026, exact date to be confirmed.

The role requires hybrid working, including both working from home and from either our base in Shrewsbury (Severn Fields Health Village) or Telford (Hall Court), as well as travel within the Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin locality per service need.

All shortlisted applicants must be available to attend a half-day academic screening in June - the provisional date for this is 25th June.

Please be aware that the academic screening test will be held at the Stoke on Trent campus, you will be required to attend this face to face.

Main duties of the job

The training post includes two days per week at University and three days of supervised clinical practice within the Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin NHS Talking Therapies service. Trainees are expected to progress to working with a high degree of autonomy, with high volume caseloads including video and face-to-face clinical work. In addition to clinical contact, the role will include data collection, data management, analysis and note keeping.

We are a busy caring team consisting of Admin staff, PWPs, CBT Practitioners & Relational Therapists. We serve the people of Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin which has exciting, diverse & growing modern towns, surrounded by stunning Shropshire countryside.

This intensive training post will equip the post holder to provide a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) service to clients with a range of complex problems for which CBT is demonstrated to be clinically effective.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Core profession as outlined by BABCP OR A relevant profession where you are able to meet the BABCP KSA criteria for entry to the course as outlined in the BABCP KSA guidance AND posses the required 2 years post-qualification experience as outlined by HEE guidance

Experience Essential

Demonstrable experience of working in mental health services Experience of providing evidence based psychological therapies, or a working knowledge of CBT

Worked in a service where agreed targets are in place demonstrating clinical outcomes

Personal attributes Essential
