About this role

Job summary

We are excited to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated doctor to join our Anaesthetics and Critical Care team as an Education Fellow.

This post has a strong focus on developing, delivering, and evaluating high-quality education programmeswithin Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine (ICM) delivered both locally and regionally. This alongside maintaining clinical skills through supported service provision.

This role is ideal for a doctor with an interest in medical education, simulation, technology enhanced learning (TEL) and training development, who is looking to build a portfolio aligned to a future career in Anaesthesia, ICM, or medical education.

Main duties of the job

Education (approx. 40-50%)

The post-holder will:

Lead on the design and development of structured education programmesin Anaesthesia and ICM Support delivery of: Resident doctor teaching programmes Multi-disciplinary teaching (including nurses, and theatre teams) Simulation-based education and skills training Contribute to: Anaesthetic novice programmes. Regional and Trust-wide teaching initiatives. Develop innovative educational resources (e.g. TEL, e-learning, and simulation) Evaluate teaching effectiveness through feedback, audit, and quality improvement Support trainees with exam preparation (e.g. FRCA / FICM components where appropriate).

We see on average 4810 OP appointments a day. We are the 4th busiest Trauma & Orthopaedic outpatients department in England - an average of 2077 per week. An average of 1115 patients are seen in A&Es across our network every day - 3rd largest in the country. Our hospitals admit an average of 195 emergency patients daily. Last year we undertook almost 33,700 planned surgical operations in our 57 operating theatres. We are one of only 7 Trusts nationally with more than 50 operating theatres. We carry out more than 140 elective procedures each working day. Job description Job responsibilities

All Locally Employed Doctors will be involved in providing a general clinical service to the Trust.

To provide clinical services to Derbyshire, East Staffordshire and surrounding areas, with colleagues and to be responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of patients at the hospitals and clinics at which you have duties and the proper functioning of the department.

To provide continuing care and treatment of patients in your charge and personal performance of clinical duties as agreed and teaching of staff in training, and the multidisciplinary team.

. Maintaining flexible arrangements for emergency cover and a provision of cover for colleagues during reasonable periods of leave.

Provision of an out-of-hours service with colleagues including on-call rota commitments as agreed.

Active participation in undergraduate and post graduate education, including training sessions for resident doctors, medical students and other healthcare staff in the specialty.

Assist in the supervision and training of medical staff/students, carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contributing to postgraduate and CPD (Continuing Professional Development) activity locally and nationally as appropriate.

Participate in clinical governance activity under local arrangements.

If the appointee has an interest in research this would be supported by the Trust and the Division.

Commitment to taking part in the annual appraisal process which will be undertaken by a trust approved appraiser.

Responsible for compliance with personal continuing professional development requirements with the support of the Trust.

Responsible for maintaining awareness of and acting in accordance with professional guidelines such as Duties of a Doctor, Good Medical Practice, and the General Medical Council (GMC) Performance Procedures.

Exceptional requirements to undertake additional duties for limited periods within geographical area specified above or undertake duties at other hospitals in the event of a major disaster or incident.

Language and Communication Skills Essential

Teaching Experience, Audit and Research Essential

Evidence and experience of supervising and teaching resident doctors and medical students Evidence of knowledge and experience of teaching clinical skills Evidence and ability to assess and apply evidence-based research into every day clinical practice

Evidence and experience of supervising and teaching resident doctors and medical students Any teaching courses or qualifications. Evidence of relevant academic and research achievements relevant to the specialty Post graduate study in education or similar

Qualifications Essential

MBBS / MBChB or equivalent Core Anaesthetic competencies achieved (IAC, Intensive Care Medicine and IAOC) equivalent to the RCoA curriculum at CT3 level. Full GMC Registration with a license to practice at time of application Life Support Qualifications

Desirable

Additional higher medical/scientific degree relevant to the specialty

Clinical Knowledge and Skills Essential

Completed at least four years' full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis). Experienced in making clinical decisions and managing risk. Up to date clinical knowledge in the relevant specialty and evidence of an understanding of its application Minimum 6 months NHS experience

Desirable

Minimum 1 year NHS experience

Management and Administrative Experience Essential

Commitment to Continuing Professional Development and the requirements of clinical governance, reporting errors and learning from these Ability to encourage and consolidate service development including use of protocols and guidelines
