About the Mount Sinai Health System

Mount Sinai Health System is one of the largest academic medical systems in the New York metro area, with more than 48,000 employees working across eight hospitals, more than 400 outpatient practices, more than 300 labs, a school of nursing, and a leading school of medicine and graduate education. Mount Sinai advances health for all people, everywhere, by taking on the most complex health care challenges of our time — discovering and applying new scientific learning and knowledge; developing safer, more effective treatments; educating the next generation of medical leaders and innovators; and supporting local communities by delivering high-quality care to all who need it.

Through the integration of its hospitals, labs, and schools, Mount Sinai offers comprehensive health care solutions from birth through geriatrics, leveraging innovative approaches such as artificial intelligence and informatics while keeping patients’ medical and emotional needs at the center of all treatment. The Health System includes more than 9,000 primary and specialty care physicians; 13 joint-venture outpatient surgery centers throughout the five boroughs of New York City, Westchester, Long Island, and Florida; and more than 30 affiliated community health centers.

We are consistently ranked by U.S. News & World Report's Best Hospitals, receiving high "Honor Roll" status, and are highly ranked: No. 1 in Geriatrics, top 5 in Cardiology/Heart Surgery, and top 20 in Diabetes/Endocrinology, Gastroenterology/GI Surgery, Neurology/Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Pulmonology/Lung Surgery, Rehabilitation, and Urology. New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai is ranked No. 12 in Ophthalmology. U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Children’s Hospitals” ranks Mount Sinai Kravis Children's Hospital among the country’s best in several pediatric specialties.

The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is ranked No. 11 nationwide in National Institutes of Health funding and in the 99th percentile in research dollars per investigator according to the Association of American Medical Colleges. Newsweek’s “The World’s Best Smart Hospitals” ranks The Mount Sinai Hospital as No. 1 in New York and in the top five globally, and Mount Sinai Morningside in the top 20 globally.

About

The Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai seeks a highly motivated and talented postdoctoral research fellow with interests in environmental epidemiology, multi-omics integration, and bioinformatics.

The candidate will join a multidisciplinary research team investigating the role of environmental exposures in the development and progression of head and neck diseases. Our research integrates large-scale epidemiological data with multi-omics approaches, including genomics, epigenomics, transcriptomics, and metabolomics, to better understand the molecular mechanisms underlying environmental health effects and disease susceptibility.

This position is well-suited for candidates with a strong background in environmental epidemiology, bioinformatics, computational biology, or biostatistics who are interested in applying advanced statistical and computational approaches to investigate the relationships between environmental exposures, molecular mechanisms, and disease. The successful candidate will have opportunities to lead research projects, develop innovative analytical approaches, collaborate with researchers across disciplines, and contribute to high-impact scientific publications.

Requirements

A doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, MD) is required. Additional required qualifications include:

  • PhD in epidemiology, bioinformatics, biostatistics, computational biology, or a related field
  • Strong statistical and computational skills, including proficiency in R and/or Python
  • Experience analyzing complex epidemiological, high-dimensional biological, or multi-omics datasets
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong scientific writing skills, including experience preparing manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication
  • Ability to independently develop and execute research projects
  • Ability to work on multiple concurrent projects
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research team
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in environmental epidemiology, molecular epidemiology, or exposure assessment
  • Experience analyzing and integrating multi-omics data, including genomics, epigenomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and/or metabolomics
  • Experience with bioinformatics pipelines and computational tools for processing and analyzing omics datasets
  • Knowledge of advanced statistical methods for high-dimensional data analysis, including machine learning and data integration approaches
  • Experience combining molecular data with epidemiological and environmental exposure data
  • Familiarity with causal inference and mediation analysis
  • Experience working with large-scale population-based cohorts and complex epidemiological datasets
  • A strong publication record and demonstrated ability to communicate scientific findings effectively
  • Experience with grant writing or developing research proposals

Responsibilities

  • Conduct large-scale statistical and bioinformatics analyses of epidemiological and multi-omics datasets
  • Investigate associations between environmental exposures and head and neck diseases using advanced epidemiological and computational approaches
  • Integrate environmental exposure, epidemiological, and multi-omics data to identify molecular pathways and biological mechanisms underlying disease risk
  • Develop and apply innovative statistical and computational methods for analyzing high-dimensional and multi-modal datasets
  • Lead the preparation and publication of scientific manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals
  • Present research findings at national and international scientific conferences
  • Collaborate with epidemiologists, bioinformaticians, basic scientists, clinicians, and other researchers across multidisciplinary projects
  • Contribute to grant applications and the development of new research proposals
  • Maintain well-documented and reproducible analytical workflows
