About this role

Job summary

We are recruiting for an MDT Coordinator and Pathway Tracker who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

In this role, you will take responsibility for ensuring that all patients with a suspected or confirmed cancer diagnosis are proactively tracked through the appropriate pathway from the point of entry into the Trust. You will work closely with clinical and administrative teams to ensure that every stage of the patient journey is fully planned, booked, and progressed in line with national Cancer Waiting Time standards, including the 28-Day Faster Diagnosis Standard, 31-Day and 62-Day targets.

You will play a key role in facilitating the smooth running of the cancer patient journey by ensuring coordinated administrative processes are in place. This includes managing the Patient Tracking List (PTL), supporting timely escalation of delays, and coordinating and facilitating MDT meetings to ensure clinical teams have the information they need to make safe and timely decisions.

At the heart of everything we do are our core values: Include, Respect, and Improve. We encourage you to embrace these values throughout the recruitment process and in your role with us, helping us to continue delivering high-quality, patient-centred cancer care.

Main duties of the job

The MDT/Patient Pathway Coordinator will take responsibility for managing the pathways of patients referred by their GP with a suspicion of cancer. You will play a key role in ensuring that each patient progresses smoothly and safely through their diagnostic and treatment pathway, in line with national Cancer Waiting Time standards.

You will need a good understanding of NHS and Trust systems, alongside strong administrative skills. This includes proficiency in Word and Excel, an understanding of medical terminology, and the ability to type accurately to support live data entry during MDT meetings.

Working in this role requires a calm, logical, and methodical approach, with the ability to multitask effectively in a busy environment. You will interact with colleagues at all levels, both internally and externally, and must be confident communicating with a wide range of clinical and administrative staff.

A key part of the role is ensuring that all relevant clinical information is available for MDT discussion. This includes coordinating notes, investigations, imaging, and test results, and liaising with external hospitals to obtain any outstanding information required for safe decision-making.

You will attend weekly MDT meetings, support the smooth running of the discussion, and maintain accurate records of MDT attendance in line with national Peer Review requirements.
