About this role

Job summary

We are looking to build a reserve pool of applicants for our Non-Emergency Patient Transport Services contract in West Bromwich for any vacancies that may arise over the next 12 months. Applicants will be considered for permanent and fixed term contracts on a full time basis only.

The main purpose of this role is to safely transport patients with varying mobilities to and from treatment centres or other venues as directed. This could include manual handling of patients, the care of patients and assisting patients, as well as driving

Applicants must hold a good standard of general education including a minimum of 3 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) including English & Maths or be willing to undertake a level 2 qualification whilst in post within the first 12 months if successful.

As part of the recruitment process applicants will undergo a formal interview, an online highway code assessment, driving & fitness assessments

About us

If this position involves a regulated activity it will require an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check. The disclosure will, where appropriate to the role, include information against the Independent Safeguarding Authority barred lists for working with children, adults or both

Where a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check is required for the post, all applicants are required to cover the cost of the check.

The cost of an enhanced check is £55.76 and is payable to our online provider at the time that the DBS application is submitted. Upon receipt of your DBS you will then be required to sign up to the DBS online update service.

Job description Job responsibilities

Carry out required vehicle and equipment checks.

Be prepared to work flexibly to ensure patients are moved in a timely, safe and dignified manner

Work within Contract Specific Quality Standards and ensure a high level of customer care (These standards vary from contract to contract and will be available at your base)

Ensure effective communication with the Control Centre, by telephone or electronic means

Transfer patients using equipment and skills specific to individual needs

Provide effective care to patients, appropriate to their requirements using available equipment.

Transport patients safely and considerately this will include pre-planned and ad-hoc journeys.

Ensure patients have a safe, smooth journey, complying with all relevant traffic legislation and driving with consideration for other road users.

Maintain full and accurate records and reports, including Patient Transport Records, Accident Reports, and Incident Reports etc. These may be both paper and electronic.

Ensure vehicles and equipment are kept in states of cleanliness and readiness.

Undertake required training to maintain acceptable standards and quality of care.

Maintain a current valid driving licence.

Adhere to corporate Instructions and Policies, Operational Instructions, Clinical Protocols, Quality Procedures and other verbal or written instructions.

Perform other tasks in keeping with the post as required by supervisory staff and managers.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Good standard of Education minimum of 3 GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade C/4 or above to include English or be willing to undertake a level 2 qualification whilst in post within the first 12 months of the role Must be willing to undertake any training as required by the Trust.

Experience Essential

Experience of working within a public service or customer care environment. Experience of driving a variety of vehicles Lifting & Handling (manual handling) experience

Visa Status Essential

Must be able to work in the UK without the need for a Visa or Sponsorship

Skills and Knowledge Essential

Good communication skills both verbally & in writing Full UK manual driving licence showing no more than 3 penalty points
