Job Title: Principal Engineer Technical Research and Report ReviewerJob DescriptionThis role combines in-depth technical research with rigorous engineering report review to support plant performance upgrades. You will spend approximately half of your time retrieving and analyzing technical information from plant technical basis documents, and the other half reviewing analysis reports prepared by others, ensuring they meet established standards and formats. This position is ideal for an engineer who enjoys both investigative research and critical technical evaluation, and who can clearly summarize complex engineering analyses.

Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed research and retrieval of technical information from plant technical basis documents, including original and updated technical analyses, calculations, and modification design packages.
• Review, interpret, and synthesize complex engineering data into clear, concise summaries that align with established internal formats and documentation standards.
• Prepare technical basis research reports and documentation and submit them for review and approval in a timely and accurate manner.
• Use available Artificial Intelligence (AI) search tools to assist in locating and organizing relevant technical information within plant documentation.
• Perform thorough technical reviews of analysis reports prepared by other engineers, focusing on accuracy, completeness, and adherence to engineering principles and internal standards.
• Provide constructive feedback on analysis reports, identifying gaps, issues, or improvements needed to support plant performance upgrades.
• Evaluate technical analyses that address various aspects of upgrading plant performance, ensuring they are technically sound and well-supported.
• Collaborate with the EPU team and other stakeholders to clarify technical requirements, resolve issues, and align on documentation expectations.
• Ensure all technical documents and reviews comply with applicable procedures, guidelines, and engineering best practices.
• Report progress, issues, and findings to the EPU Supervisor and support continuous improvement of research and review processes.

Essential Skills

• Engineering degree from an accredited school, or 5 years or more of direct relevant experience in lieu of an engineering degree.
• Proven experience conducting technical research and retrieving information from complex engineering documentation and technical basis documents.
• Strong ability to analyze and interpret technical analyses, engineering calculations, and modification design packages.
• Demonstrated experience preparing clear, structured technical reports and summaries that follow established formats and standards.
• Experience performing technical reviews of engineering analysis reports and providing detailed, constructive feedback.
• Familiarity with product development processes, including new product development and research and development activities.
• Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills for documenting findings and collaborating with engineering teams.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple assignments, and adapt to changing group needs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working on plant performance upgrades or similar complex engineering projects.
• Background in research and development, with exposure to product development processes and methodologies.
• Comfort using Artificial Intelligence (AI) or advanced search tools to assist with technical information retrieval.
• Experience standardizing documentation to align with internal formats and templates.
• Prior experience working in a structured engineering environment with formal review and approval processes.

Work EnvironmentThe role begins with an initial on-site period of approximately four weeks, during which expenses are covered, to allow you to become familiar with the plant environment, systems, and documentation practices. After this onboarding period, you will primarily work remotely, with occasional site visits as needed to support project activities, meetings, or reviews. You will work closely with the EPU team and the EPU Supervisor, leveraging AI-based search tools and established documentation systems to perform research and review tasks. The environment emphasizes professional collaboration, structured engineering processes, and a balance of independent work and team interaction.

Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Waynesboro, GA.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $65.00 - $75.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
