Job summary

We are looking for an autonomous, motivated GP to join us for 4 to 6 sessions per week. While we are looking for a long-term fit, we are open to discussing contract terms that suit the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver exceptional face-to-face, telephone, and digital consultations, managing complex multi-morbidity cases with clinical autonomy. Once fully established and settled into the practice, you will take an active role in the Duty Doctor rota, fulfilling on-call obligations and managing clinical triage to ensure urgent patient needs are met safely and efficiently. Contribute to our proactive management of long-term conditions and promote disease prevention. Support the development of the next generation of clinicians through our established teaching programs for medical students and STs. Promptly process clinical correspondence, lab results, and prescriptions using our streamlined digital workflow systems. Participate in clinical audits, SEAs, and strategic meetings to help shape the future of our service delivery.

Job Summary

The post-holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.

Clinical Responsibilities

In accordance with the agreed Practice timetable, the post-holder will undertake a variety of duties including:

Surgery consultations, telephone consultations, and queries. Visiting patients at home. Checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion. Making professional, autonomous decisions regarding presenting problems. Assessing healthcare needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems. Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness. Developing care plans in consultation with patients and in line with Practice protocols. Providing counselling and health education. Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers. Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes and collecting data for audit. Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions where possible). Prescribing in accordance with the Practice formulary or generically. Undertaking all normal GP duties, including on-call duties. Participation in Extended Hours (e.g., Saturday mornings or late evenings) pro rata.Other Responsibilities within the Organisation

Compliance with all relevant Practice policies (e.g., prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety). Commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice. Contributing to clinical standard setting, evaluation, and audit. Contributing to the development of computer-based patient records and Read-Coding patient data. Attending Practice training and events.Confidentiality

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Primary Medical Degree and GMC Registration with a license to practice. Inclusion on the NHS National Performers List (or eligibility for inclusion). Evidence of autonomous management of complex multi-morbidity cases across face-to-face, telephone, and digital platforms. Demonstrable commitment to kind, patient-centered care and the ability to handle distressing situations with sensitivity. Proven ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team and support/mentor colleagues or students. Strong IT skills with the ability to manage digital workflows (results, letters, and prescriptions) efficiently. Understanding of GMC standards, clinical governance, and QOF/quality improvement frameworks.

Desirable

Previous experience using EMIS Web to manage patient records and consultations. Familiarity with Docman (10) for processing clinical correspondence and coding results efficiently. Experience using Accurx for patient messaging, video consultations, and photo requests. Prior experience in formal clinical teaching or supervision of junior clinicians. An interest in a particular clinical area (e.g., Womens Health, Diabetes, or Minor Surgery) that complements the existing team. Experience in leading clinical audits or Significant Event Analyses (SEAs).
