Job summary

NHS England is recruiting an Endoscopy Nurse Lead for the South East Endoscopy Training Academy on a secondment for a fixed term basis, until 31 March 2027 in the first instance. This role is for 1 or 2 days a week, with a potential for job share. (Please note in this text Endoscopy Nurse refers to nurses working on the Endoscopy unit, not Clinical Endoscopists)

The post will be home based, working remotely with some attendance at local NHSE offices and regional hospitals. The post holder will sit within the NHSE South East Cancer and Diagnostics Programme and will be instrumental in leading the ongoing development of the South East Endoscopy Training Academy.

The purpose of the Endoscopy Nurse Lead is to lead on the development of Endoscopy Nurse Training in the South East, providing regional leadership for the delivery of high quality, cross specialty, & multi-professional endoscopy training, in collaboration with the wider South East Endoscopy Training Academy core team

The post holder will be committed to the development of the current and future endoscopy workforce, able to demonstrate strategic thinking and innovative problem solving when approaching the complex challenge of delivering multi-professional education.

Main duties of the job

This role will be integral to the development of the academy and will be responsible for providing clinical insight and leadership within Endoscopy Nurse training. The key outputs from the role, supported by the Academy's Clinical Lead, Senior Project Manager, and Project Officer, as well as the NHSE SE Cancer and Diagnostics Programme Team will be to:

Undertake workforce planning to identify the region's training needs and to identify any challenges in appointing and retaining staff

Promote endoscopy nursing as a career choice in the region

Increase the utilisation of JETS-Workforce, working through system blockers/barriers to uptake, with particular focus on the roll out of ENDO 2.

Develop and deliver upskilling and developmental opportunities for Endoscopy Nurses to extend their scope of practice, mapped to career pathways

Work with partners to develop and deliver professional development for endoscopy nurses and support staff with the aim of improving recruitment and retention for the SE region

Development of excellent working relationships with multiple stakeholders including NHSE colleagues, NHS Trusts, Endoscopy Networks, Higher Education Institutes, professional, clinical & education leads.

Key elements of the job will include:

Communicate, provide and present information to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders including those working within the regional endoscopy units and external agencies, building and maintaining key relationships with a wide range of different stakeholders with complex and conflicting requirements Leading on workforce matters as the subject matter expert with external stakeholders, working closely with internal and external teams and others to lead, advise, support, facilitate, monitor and performance manage the implementation of a workforce transformation programme for the endoscopy nursing workforce, ensuring work is aligned with ICS plans and supports the delivery of the NHS England delivery plan and other related policy. Leading on the design and implementation of this programme of work to support workforce transformation priorities, including planning, developing and evaluating methods to measure the performance and outputs of assigned pieces of work, alongside ensuring appropriate governance and risk management. This will include the delivery and management of short-, medium- and long-term business plans for local teams to achieve quality strategic outcomes Making sound decisions in an uncertain environment, where the outcomes are not immediately apparent, using analysis and judgement where data may conflict. The successful candidate will be passionate about the delivery and management of endoscopy nurse education and training in the South East. The post holder will become part of a dynamic team who are passionate and committed to supporting the expansion and transformation of education and training in endoscopy.

Skills and Abilities Essential

Capable of effective planning over a medium and short-term planning horizon and with a high tolerance of uncertainty, ensuring the appropriate allocation of resources, early identification of risk through a continuously adapting project landscape

Experience and Knowledge Essential

Leadership and management experience Experience of creating and giving presentations to a varied group of internal and external stakeholders

Desirable

Knowledge of training infrastructure in endoscopy service delivery.

Qualifications and Training Essential

Registered Nurse with current Nursing and Midwifery Council registration (which must be maintained) as Registered Nurse - Adult Postgraduate level or equivalent in relevant field or extensive knowledge of specialist area acquired through education or equivalent experience
