General Purpose of the Position
The Senior Business Relationship Manager is a senior-level commercial banker responsible for originating, structuring, and managing highly complex commercial relationships. This role carries significant production expectations, substantial credit authority (as assigned), and strategic influence within the commercial lending function. The Senior BRM plays a leadership role in portfolio management, credit culture, and market development.
Generally originates loans with the most complex borrowing and ownership structures up to organizational lending limits.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Originates and manages a large portfolio of complex commercial and middle-market relationships. Develops and maintains long-term relationships with high-Net-Worth clients, CUSOs, brokers, CDFIs, centers of influence and other influential people in the community. Leads structuring of highly complex transactions including:
Large multi-layered credit facilities Syndications and participations (lead bank role) Acquisition and construction financing Complex commercial real estate projects
Serves as primary relationship strategist for key clients. Works closely with Credit department to prepare comprehensive loan presentations for loan authority and committee approval. Presents and defends credit proposals at senior loan committee levels. Exercises higher-level lending authority within policy limits. Drives significant new production in loans, deposits, treasury management, and fee-based services. Mentors and coaches junior and mid-level relationship officers. Assists in shaping credit standards, risk appetite discussions, and portfolio strategy. Represents the institution in the market and community at a senior level. Works closely with collections and collects past due loans up to 60 days delinquent.
Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or advanced financial training preferred. 10+ years of commercial banking experience with demonstrated success in complex credit structuring. Deep expertise in loan structuring, credit analysis, risk mitigation, and loan documentation. Strong leadership presence and executive-level communication skills. Proven track record of exceeding production and portfolio performance goals. Strong knowledge and familiarity with Colorado markets and/or a current commercial book of business.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Understanding of Credit Union’s field of membership. Thorough knowledge and understanding of CU of CO’s services and products; of Credit Union laws, rules, and regulations affecting credit union activities. Knowledge in real estate valuation software, property assessments, and appraisals. Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in applying and interpreting CU of CO’s policies and procedures. Demonstrated effective management and leadership skills to select, motivate, develop, and supervise assigned personnel. Ability to apply verbal and interpersonal skills that develop member confidence, respect and trust in CU of CO; establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrative officials, all levels of people throughout the organization, and the public.
