First General Services is a thriving property damage restoration company. It works mainly in Canada and the US as a network of independently owned affiliates. We provide water, wind, fire and smoke damage restoration, structural drying, mold remediation, catastrophic storm response, contents claims inventory services, and more. We are hiring for the position of Project Manager for our Thunder Bay office. Relocation assistance will be provided to the right candidate.
The Project Manager coordinates restoration projects from planning through completion, aligning schedules, budgets, field activities, and stakeholder communication. This role uses project management and construction management software to keep work organized, support timely decisions, and help teams restore affected properties efficiently.
Responsbilities
- Manage a portfolio of active mitigation and reconstruction projects, from emergency response through completion and close-out
- Visit loss sites to assess damage, confirm scope of work and set a realistic plan, schedule and budget
- Prepare and review estimates using industry estimating software (Xactimate or equivalent) and negotiate scope and pricing with insurance adjusters
- Coordinate and schedule production crews, technicians, subcontractors and suppliers
- Maintain accurate project documentation, including photos, moisture logs, drying records, change orders and daily notes, to support insurance claims
- Communicate regularly with property owners, tenants, adjusters, brokers and property managers; set expectations and resolve concerns quickly
- Track costs, manage purchase orders and approve subcontractor invoices; invoice progress and final billings on time
- Enforce health and safety practices, including PPE, containment, hazardous material protocols and site safety plans
- Ensure work meets IICRC standards, building codes and permit requirements
- Perform quality inspections and lead final walkthroughs with customers
- Support on-call and catastrophic event response as required
Qualifications
- Experience in general contracting and managing larger new builds an asset
- 3+ years of experience as a Restoration Project Manager or in a similar role considered an asset
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work independently
- Excellent time management skills
- Strong computer skills - Internet, Intranet, Excel, Office Suite
- Attention to detail and great organizational and analytical skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of the regulatory requirements and practices in the insurance/restoration industry

- Ontario Driver?s License (required)
