About this role
Job Title: Mechanical Engineer / Mechanical Designer (Reverse Engineering Short-Term Project)Job DescriptionWe are seeking a Mechanical Engineer or experienced Mechanical Designer to support a time-sensitive reverse engineering project. You measure a machine, recreate it as a precise 3D CAD model in CREO, and produce detailed manufacturing drawings to support finite element analysis and fabrication. This is an approximately two-month engagement where maintaining a fast and accurate project pace is critical to meeting customer deadlines.
Responsibilities
- Reverse engineer mechanical components from an existing physical machine and translate them into accurate digital representations.
- Take detailed measurements of dismantled components and convert them into precise 3D CAD models using CREO.
- Recreate the complete equipment assembly, including all component interfaces, mechanical relationships, and constraints.
- Produce detailed manufacturing drawings, including dimensions, tolerances, materials, weldments, and other required fabrication information.
- Work closely with internal engineering and fabrication teams to ensure the 3D models and drawings accurately represent the existing equipment.
- Incorporate feedback, design changes, and drawing revisions throughout the project lifecycle.
- Maintain a fast and disciplined project pace to meet customer-driven deadlines and a compressed schedule.
- Work from physical parts and limited or incomplete existing drawings or documentation to generate accurate models and drawings.
Essential Skills
- Background in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or an equivalent mechanical design discipline.
- Strong experience with reverse engineering physical machinery and mechanical components.
- Proficient 3D CAD modelling experience in CREO, including part and assembly modelling.
- Experience creating detailed 3D models and associated drawings in CREO.
- Hands-on experience with mechanical assemblies, fabricated components, and weldments.
- Ability to work from physical parts when existing drawings or documentation are limited or incomplete.
- Strong understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, fits, materials, and manufacturing or fabrication methods.
- Ability to work independently and consistently deliver high-quality work within a compressed project schedule.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with heavy industrial equipment, custom machinery, material handling equipment, or fabricated steel equipment.
- Experience designing or documenting welded structures and welded fabrications.
- Experience working directly with machine shops and fabrication teams to resolve design and manufacturability issues.
- Familiarity with using 3D CAD models to support FEA (finite element analysis) workflows is an asset.
