About this role

Mechanical AssemblerJob DescriptionJoin a high-performance manufacturing team as a Mechanical Assembler, where you will build large, custom diesel and natural gas engines that power hospital backup generators, data centers, and heavy industrial equipment. This is a hands-on, technically demanding role that requires strong mechanical aptitude, confident use of a wide range of tools, and the ability to follow detailed engineering drawings and work instructions. You will assemble and manipulate massive engine components, perform in-process troubleshooting and repair, and contribute directly to the quality and reliability of mission-critical equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble large diesel and natural gas engines from multiple sub-assemblies according to detailed blueprints, engineering drawings, and customer specifications.
  • Use a wide range of hand and power tools, including torque wrenches, pneumatic air tools, DC electrical tooling, and basic wrenches to correctly fasten and secure components.
  • Interpret work instructions, standard operating procedures, and assembly schematics using CPU-based systems to review documentation and record progress.
  • Manipulate and position heavy engine components using lifting devices, cranes, and hoists while maintaining strict safety standards.
  • Apply proper fastening, sealing, hydraulic equipment usage, and torque techniques to ensure assemblies meet all quality and performance requirements.
  • Perform basic mechanical troubleshooting on in-process engines, identifying issues and making appropriate adjustments or repairs.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, tape measures, and work instructions to determine correct parts, tools, and assembly steps.
  • Conduct electrical and mechanical checks using appropriate testing equipment to verify that assemblies meet specifications.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, promptly addressing any debris, spills, or hazards in accordance with safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with a partner on the assembly team and coordinate work within designated zones on the main line to complete multiple engine components.
  • Follow established quality standards and processes, documenting work performed and ensuring all assemblies meet internal and customer expectations.
  • Participate in required written and hands-on assessments during training to demonstrate proficiency in safety, tooling, torque equipment, and quality procedures.
  • Adhere to all personal protective equipment requirements, including steel or composite toe shoes, ear protection, and safety glasses, at all times on the production floor.
  • Support production goals by working scheduled shifts and overtime as required, contributing to on-time delivery and meeting business demand.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience working in an industrial environment performing hands-on tasks.
  • Demonstrated experience using mechanical tooling such as torque equipment, DC tools, and hand tools.
  • Solid mid-level mechanical aptitude; this role goes beyond basic assembly or simple power tool operation.
  • Experience following written work instructions, standard operating procedures, and blueprints.
  • Ability to use CPU-based systems to follow engineering drawings, work instructions, and documented processes.
  • Capability to pass both written and hands-on assessments during training focused on safety, fastening, sealing, hydraulic equipment, torque equipment, and quality.
  • Comfort working with large, heavy mechanical components and using lifting devices such as cranes and hoists.
  • Basic blueprint reading skills and ability to use measurement tools such as tape measures.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to meeting quality standards and specifications.
  • Steel-toed or composite-toed shoes required at the start of employment.
  • Ability to achieve at least the 21st percentile or above on the required general labor assessment.
  • No diploma required, but practical mechanical experience and aptitude are essential.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in automotive service or repair environments.
  • Experience as a diesel technician or lube technician.
  • Work experience in tire shops handling mechanical and assembly tasks.
  • Exposure to farming, construction, maintenance, or facilities work involving tools and equipment.
  • Experience with mechanical assembly in light industrial or production environments.
  • Familiarity with electrical schematics, basic wiring, and electronic assembly is beneficial.
  • Experience in general production or general labor roles where quality and safety were emphasized.
  • Ability to describe and demonstrate building projects completed from scratch using tools, either professionally or personally.
  • Experience working with pneumatic tooling, including understanding how to safely operate and maintain these tools.
  • Prior use of torque equipment with an understanding of how to verify correct torque and ensure proper fastening.
  • Mechanical troubleshooting experience, whether on the job or in personal projects, with the ability to explain problem-solving steps.
  • Comfort working in a team environment, particularly in paired assembly roles and multi-zone production lines.
