Requirements
- Experienced Business Analyst with a strong data focus; experience in Local or Central Government is sought.
- Strong core Business Analysis experience, including requirements gathering, workshops and stakeholder management.
- Experience working on data-focused projects or programmes.
- Understanding of Data Lakes, data schemas and data structures.
- Experience mapping and understanding data flows across systems, including Master Data Management (MDM) flows.
- Experience gathering and defining reporting requirements.
- Ability to translate business requirements into clear requirements for data and development teams.
- Experience working closely with Data Engineering, Data Development or similar technical teams.
- Experience supporting defect triage and issue resolution.
- Desirable: experience with Microsoft Fabric or a similar modern data platform.
- Desirable: experience working within Local or Central Government.
Responsibilities
- Engage with business users to understand their data, reporting and information requirements.
- Lead requirements gathering through workshops, stakeholder engagement and analysis.
- Translate business needs into clear requirements for data products and technical delivery teams.
- Understand and document data flows, data schemas and data structures.
- Analyse how data moves through different systems, including Master Data Management (MDM) flows.
- Work closely with the Head of Data and data build teams throughout delivery.
- Define and document reporting requirements, ensuring solutions meet business needs.
- Bridge business and technical stakeholders, explaining complex data concepts in clear business language.
- Support defect triage, working with business and technical teams to understand, prioritise and resolve issues.

We are recruiting a Business Analyst for a major data and transformation programme. The role sits between business stakeholders and technical data teams and requires a strong understanding of data structures, data flows and data platforms, but is not a hands-on Data Engineer position. The rate is £450–£500 per day, with a hybrid working pattern of two days per week on-site in Birmingham and the remainder remote.
