Requirements
- Strong commercial back-end development experience in Python, C#/.NET, or a comparable language
- Proven experience designing, building, and versioning APIs, including REST and ideally gRPC or GraphQL
- Hands-on Kafka experience, including topic design, producers and consumers, and stream processing
- Experience leading or mentoring engineers, or serving as a technical lead
- Solid knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases
- Experience with a major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of scalable, secure back-end services and APIs
- Own the architecture of event-driven pipelines built on Kafka
- Set engineering standards for code quality, testing, CI/CD, and documentation
- Mentor developers, conduct code reviews, and guide technical decisions
- Work with product and data teams to turn requirements into reliable services
- Ensure systems meet security and data protection expectations
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and improve production performance and reliability

We are a growing, data-driven organisation seeking a Lead Back End Developer to shape and deliver services at the heart of our platform. You will lead a team of engineers, own technical direction, and remain hands-on in the code. Our stack is flexible and may include Python, C#, and other languages, with strong engineering fundamentals valued over expertise in a specific language. This is a contract role based in London, with a rate of £650–£750 per day inside IR35, hybrid working requiring two days per week onsite, and an initial six-month term.
