About the Role

At Nottingham Business School (NBS), we combine academic excellence with positive impact on people, business, and society. As a Triple Crown business school, we are among the world's leading business schools, recognised for our collaborative culture, ambitious outlook, world-leading research, strong industry engagement, and innovative, immersive education. We empower our students and staff to shape a more sustainable, inclusive, and prosperous future.

We are seeking to appoint a Head of Department of Accounting and Finance and Professor to provide strategic leadership and direction for the continued development of research and education that matters to business and the wider world. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering NBS and NTU strategic objectives, leading academic excellence, research and knowledge exchange, student experience, and external engagement across the Accounting and Finance portfolio.

The Department of Accounting and Finance delivers a broad portfolio of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes. Our courses are informed by cutting-edge research, industry practice, and strong links with professional bodies and employers, ensuring graduates develop the knowledge, skills, and experience required to succeed in a rapidly changing global economy.

As Head of Department and a key member of the NBS and NTU leadership community, you will lead and inspire a talented team of academics, further strengthening the department's reputation for excellence in teaching, research, professional engagement, and student experience. Reporting to the Executive Dean and working closely with the School Executive Team, you will contribute to the strategic development of NBS while fostering a culture of excellence in education, research, innovation, and collaboration with business, employers, professional bodies, alumni, and wider stakeholders.

This senior academic leadership role carries significant line management responsibilities and requires an individual with an outstanding academic reputation, strong leadership and people-management skills, substantial higher education experience, and a thorough understanding of contemporary issues affecting accounting and finance education, research, and professional practice.

We welcome applications from established academics across all areas of accounting and finance and are particularly interested in expertise that complements our strategic priorities, including financial reporting, corporate governance, and the implications of digital technologies and data analytics for accounting and finance. Applications are welcomed from both professorial and non-professorial academic candidates.

As Professor of Accounting and Finance, you will:

  • Lead internationally recognised research, producing high-quality publications and helping shape the research agenda in your field.
  • Grow and strengthen our research community through mentoring, collaboration, and the development of an inclusive and ambitious research culture.
  • Develop our doctoral community through PhD supervision and doctoral training.
  • Secure and lead external funding, building major research and knowledge-exchange projects with funders, professional bodies, industry, and international partners.
  • Create meaningful impact by translating research into benefits for policy, professional practice, business, and society.
  • Bring your expertise into education by contributing to undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral teaching and supporting innovative, research-informed curricula.
  • Provide academic leadership that strengthens the Department's national and international profile.

This is an exciting opportunity to influence the future direction of Accounting and Finance at Nottingham Business School while developing ambitious research, partnerships, and people.

For further details, please refer to the role profile. We encourage applications even if you do not meet every requirement, so please do not be discouraged if your experience does not align perfectly with every criterion.
