About this role

The role

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Postdoctoral Research Associate for a Little Princess Trust/Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group funded “New Ideas” research project entitled “Using splice-switching oligonucleotides for cancer therapeutics”.

The project builds on our recently published work demonstrating the spliceosomal vulnerability of neuroblastoma [Bojko etal, Cancer Letters 2024, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.canlet.2024.217263].

We propose that altering specific mRNA splicing events may selectively kill cancer cells, or sensitize them to chemotherapeutics. The applicant will deploy targeted antisense oligonucleotides to select genes for this purpose. The post will be for up to 12 months (full-time).

What will you be doing?

This project will require a strong understanding of gene regulation, in particular regulation by post-transcriptional mRNA splicing.

You will be expected to show strong initiative and be responsible for the planning, execution, analysis and presentation of the project’s experiments. In addition to molecular/biochemical/cell biology techniques, the project may require expertise in bioinformatic analyses.

You should apply if

You are highly motivated to impact childhood cancer research. You hold a relevant PhD, or expect to be awarded one very soon. You need to possess high-level molecular/biochemical/cell biology practical skills, including ChIP,RNA immunoprecipitation, co-immunoprecipitation, qPCR, alternative splicing analysis, western-blotting, tissue-culture, confocal microscopy, immunocytochemistry, flow cytometry. You should also have some hands-on experience of bioinformatics for proteomics and transcriptomics
