About this role
Job Title: Mechanical / Piping Engineer Pipe Stress Specialist
Job DescriptionThis role focuses on performing advanced pipe stress analysis for complex piping systems in power, petrochemical, and construction environments. The Mechanical / Piping Engineer will use industry codes and specialized software to evaluate stresses, displacements, and support loads, and will design pipe supports, spring hangers, and expansion joints. The engineer will prepare calculations, technical datasheets, and detailed stress reports while collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure piping systems meet all engineering, safety, and performance requirements.
Responsibilities
- Perform detailed pipe stress analysis in accordance with applicable piping codes and standards, including B31.1 and B31.3.
- Utilize pipe stress analysis software such as CAESAR II and/or Autopipe to evaluate calculated stress results, displacements, and pipe support loads.
- Design and select pipe supports, spring hangers, and expansion joints to ensure safe and reliable operation of piping systems.
- Prepare accurate engineering calculations, technical datasheets, and comprehensive pipe stress analysis reports.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, isometrics, schematics, and computer-generated reports to support design and analysis activities.
- Review and check piping isometrics and pipe support designs for technical accuracy, constructability, and compliance with project standards.
- Conduct and participate in design reviews and engineering meetings, providing technical input and recommendations on piping design and stress-related issues.
- Gather, analyze, and document data concerning existing equipment and piping systems, and provide data comparisons to support design decisions and modifications.
- Develop and test models of alternate designs and processing methods to assess feasibility, operating conditions, potential new applications, and the need for modifications.
- Specify system components and recommend or direct modifications to piping systems to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.
- Independently evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, using sound judgment to make minor adaptations and modifications as required.
- Complete project documentation in accordance with the engineering quality management process and established company procedures.
- Collaborate with project teams in a transparent, teamwork-based culture to meet project objectives, schedules, and quality standards.
- Organize and prioritize work assignments independently, coordinating multiple tasks while managing conflicting priorities and deadlines.
- Ensure understanding, acceptance, and adherence to company policies, procedures, and business objectives throughout all project activities.
- Travel to office and field locations as needed to support design reviews, site assessments, and project execution.
Essential Skills
- Extensive experience in pipe stress analysis for power, petrochemical, and construction projects, with approximately 10 years of related engineering experience.
- 510 years of hands-on experience using pipe stress analysis software such as CAESAR II and/or Autopipe.
- Strong knowledge of piping codes and standards, including B31.1, B31.3, and relevant API codes.
- Proven ability to design and analyze pipe supports, including flexibility analysis and selection of spring hangers and expansion joints.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, isometrics, schematics, and computer-generated engineering reports.
- Demonstrated proficiency in mechanical or piping engineering design, including specification of system components and evaluation of design modifications.
- Advanced problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to evaluate complex technical issues and propose practical solutions.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present technical information clearly to diverse stakeholders.
