About this role

Summer Semester 2027 – fixed term of 3–6 months Linear position measurement systems enable the precise measurement of positions and movements along an axis. To investigate new measurement and signal processing methods, flexible electronics are needed to generate, acquire and process sensor signals. As part of this bachelor’s or master’s thesis, you will develop a prototype circuit to test innovative approaches for a linear encoder. You will be involved throughout the development process, from analyzing requirements and designing the circuit to selecting suitable components, commissioning the prototype and experimentally validating its performance.

YOUR TASKS

Familiarize yourself with the measurement principle, existing sensor technology and electronic requirements. Derive the requirements for the prototype circuit and develop a suitable circuit concept. Select electronic components and calculate the values of relevant circuit components. Create the circuit schematic and PCB layout. Support the assembly and soldering of the prototype. Commission the circuit step by step and perform electrical functional tests. Investigate circuit behavior under realistic operating conditions. Analyze measurement signals and evaluate the prototype’s performance. Document your findings and develop recommendations for further improvements.

YOUR PROFILE

Degree studies in electrical engineering, electronics, information technology, mechatronics or a comparable field Interest in analog and digital circuit design, sensor technology and measurement systems Basic knowledge of electronic circuit design and analysis Experience using oscilloscopes, function generators and other laboratory equipment Initial experience with ECAD tools for schematic design and PCB layout is an advantage Knowledge of microcontrollers and low-level programming is desirable Knowledge of C/C++ and Python is an advantage Independent, structured and analytical approach to work Enjoyment of hands-on development and laboratory work Contact: Sarah Disch
