Dermatology outpatients are seeking registered nurses looking to specialise and begin a career in caring for individuals with acute and chronic skin conditions. Being a dermatology nurse is incredibly rewarding, the skin is not only our largest organ but also our most visible. The dermatology nurse can support, educate and help to manage the patent sometimes to a full resolution and in a chronic condition provide ongoing support and education. Dermatology is a large, welcoming friendly team, and the successful applicant will receive a dermatology nursing competency pack and support from a dedicated clinical educator, nurses and doctors with many combined years of dermatology experience.
Main duties of the job
Dermatology is a varied specialty with a mixture of surgical, general and nurse led clinical areas. Once competent you would be expected to scrub and assist in surgical procedures ranging from biopsy, flaps, grafts and micrographic surgery. You would support doctors and nurse consultants with general dermatology and urgent suspected skin cancer clinics, ensuring the patient is supported throughout the consultation and completing their outcome paperwork to reflect the clinician's next steps.
Once a sound grasp of surgical and general clinics is achieved, registered nurses in dermatology progress to develop skills assisting in a variety of clinical areas and nurse led clinics, including admission avoidance for acute dermatological conditions, post operative wound care, educational input, severe acne, phototherapy, biological medication, paediatrics, allergy testing and teledermatology. There are many areas within the specialty to learn and develop with guided support, specific competencies and all at an agreed pace.
Dermatology has clinics at NNUH and Cromer, though this role would be primarily based at NNUH as we have a dedicated Cromer nursing team, there may be an occasional requirement to cover clinics at Cromer during staff holidays.
If dermatology sounds like an area you would like to be involved in, please contact us to discuss further and consider an informal visit, apply.
