Job Overview

The Equipment Operator is a core member of the DC Operations warehouse team, responsible for the safe and accurate movement, storage, and retrieval of furniture product across all functional areas of the distribution center. The Equipment Operator is trained and expected to perform across receiving, putaway, replenishment, and shipping functions as business needs dictate — supporting a flexible, high-efficiency operation. Operators utilize Cherry Picker lifts, RF scanners, and other material handling equipment to maintain inventory accuracy and support the timely flow of product through the building.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate a Cherry Picker lift at heights up to 40 feet to retrieve, putaway, and relocate furniture product throughout the distribution center.
  • Utilize RF scanners to accurately identify, locate, and move product to designated locations within the Warehouse Management System.
  • Perform receiving functions: unload inbound vendor trailers, stage product on the receiving floor, and accurately scan and confirm receipts.
  • Perform putaway and stocking functions: transport product from staging areas to proper rack locations in the storage aisles.
  • Perform shipping functions: pick product from rack locations and stage at the dock for outbound loading.
  • Operate electric pallet jacks, pallet stackers, and other material handling equipment as needed and as certified.
  • Maintain inventory accuracy by following proper scan procedures and reporting discrepancies to the Lead or management team immediately.
  • Contribute to a safe work environment by following all safety protocols, completing pre-operation equipment inspections, and reporting any unsafe conditions.
  • Support team goals and operational targets including pieces-per-hour (PPH), Labor Management System targets, accuracy, and on-time completion.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area at all times.
  • Cooperate with team members, leads, and management to complete tasks and meet daily and shift goals.
  • Contribute to a company culture that champions honesty, integrity, transparency, accountability, fun, diversity, safety, and community.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience: Prior experience operating a Cherry Picker, reach truck, or similar order picker equipment is preferred.
  • Physical: Must be able to pass a physical assessment with a push/pull requirement of up to 250 lbs.
  • Other: Comfortable working at heights up to 40 feet. Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, nights, and weekends as determined by operational needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a high-volume distribution center or warehouse environment, preferably in furniture, home goods, or retail.
  • Familiarity with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and RF scanning technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally across multiple departments or functions within a DC.

Key Competencies

  • Safety Mindset: Follows all safety protocols without exception. Reports hazards immediately. Operates equipment in a safe, controlled manner at all times.
  • Accuracy and Attention to Detail: Scans and confirms product with precision. Understands that inventory accuracy directly impacts customer satisfaction.
  • Adaptability: Willingness and ability to perform across receiving, putaway, and shipping functions based on daily operational needs.
  • Team Collaboration: Works cooperatively with peers and leadership to hit shared team goals.
  • Accountability: Takes ownership of assigned tasks and communicates proactively when issues arise.
